Sorry, this pun only works in German, where āBadā means spa and is used as prefix for spa towns.
@zvava@twtxt.net Going to have to hard disagree here Iām sorry. a) no-one reads the raw/plain twtxt.txt files, the only time you do is to debug something, or have a stick beak at the comments which most clients will strip out and ignore and b) Iām sorry youāve completely lost me! Iām old enough to pre-date before Linux became popular, so Iām not sure what UNIX principles you think are being broken or violated by having a Twt Subject (Subject)
whose contents is a cryptographic content-addressable hash of the āthingā⢠youāre replying to and forming a chain of other replies (a thread).
Iām sorry, but the simplest thing to do is to make the smallest number of changes to the Spec as possible and all agree on a āMagic Dateā for which our clients use the modified function(s).

The README should hopefully provide a crude introduction. The example configuration file is documented fairly well, I believe (but maybe not). You probably still have to consult and maybe also modify the source code to fit your needs.
Let me know if you run into issues, have questions, wishes etc.
@bender@twtxt.net I think itās actually a new XEP proposal ( https://xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0084.html#proto-info ), but itās still a bit unclear. Sorry for the late and vague response, Iām still trying to test it and see what itās even about, didnāt yet find a server, that supports it.

I like the looks of your window manager. Thatās using Wayland, right? The only thing on this screenshot to critique is all that wasted space of the windows not making use of the full screen!!!1 At least the file browser. 8-)
This drives me nuts when my workmates share their screens. I really donāt get it how people can work like that. You canāt even read the whole line in the IDE or log viewer with all the expanded side bars. And then thereās 200 pixels on the left and another 300 pixels on the right where the desktop wallpaper shows. Gnaa! Thereās the other extreme end when somebody shares their ultra wide screen and I just have a āregularishā 16:10 monitor and donāt see shit, because itās resized way too tiny to fit my width. Good times. :-D
Sorry for going off on a tangent here. :-) Back to your WM: It has the right mix of being subtle and still similar to motif. Probably close to the older Windowses. My memory doesnāt serve me well, but I think they actually got it fairly good in my opinion. Your purple active window title looks killer. It just fits so well. This brown one (https://www.uninformativ.de/blog/postings/2025-07-22/0/leafpads.png) gives me also classic vibes. Awww. The nice part of Twtxt is that it is read by humans, with a simpler format. Itās the heart of the social network.

I also fundamentally do not believe in the notion that Twtxt should be readable and writable by humans. Weāve thrown this āargumentā around in support of some of the proposals, and I just donāt buy it (sorry). @thecanine@twtxt.net My apologies, mate! :-( As @david@collantes.us pointed out, this was definitely not my intent at all.
For the easter egg hunt, I first looked for a hidden image map link on the pixel dog in the right lower corner itself. Maybe one giant pixel just links to somewhere else, I figured. But I couldnāt find any and then quickly moved on. Hence, I naturally viewed the HTML source. Because where else would be a good hiding place for easter eggs, right?
Next, I noticed the <font>
tags. I thought I had read quite some time ago that they are not an HTML5 thing, but wasnāt entirely sure about it. So, I asked the W3C HTML validator. Sure enough. I thought I let you know about the violations. If somebody had found a mistake on my site, Iād love to hear about it, so I could fix it. Iām sorry that my chosen form of report didnāt resonate with you all that well. I reckoned youāll also find it a bit funny, but I was clearly very wrong on that.
I actually followed the dog cow link to the video, so I ended up on the easter egg. However, I didnāt recognize it as such. ĀÆ_(ć)_/ĀÆ Oh well.
Regarding my message about the browser quirks: I read your answer that you were arguing against the HTML validator findings. Of course, everybody can do with their sites whatever they likes.

@prologic@twtxt.net oops, Iām sorry to see disagreement leading to draining emotions.
It remind me a bit of the Conclave movie where every part wanted to defend their vision and there is only a winner. If one wins the other loses. Like the political side of many leaders and volunteers representing a broad community. I donāt think thatās the case here. Most of us (in not all) should āwinā.
I can only add that isnāt nice to listen that āmy idea and effortā is not what the rest of the people expect. I personally have a kind of issue with public rejection, but I also like to argue, discuss and even fight a bit. āA gem cannot be polished without friction, nor a man perfected without trials,ā they say.
This exercise and belonging to this community also brings me good feelings of smart people trying to solve a human and technical problem, which is insanely difficult to get ārightā.
I genuinely hope we can understand each other, and even with our different and respectful thoughts on the same thing, we might reach an agreement on whatās the best for most people.
Good vibes to everyone!
@prologic@twtxt.net We canāt agree on this idea because that makes things even more complicated than it already is today. The beauty of twtxt is, you put one file on your server, done. One. Not five million. Granted, there might be archive feeds, so it might be already a bit more, but still faaaaaaar less than one file per message.
Also, you would need to host not your own hash files, but everybody elseās as well you follow. Otherwise, what is that supposed to achieve? If people are already following my feed, they know what hashes I have, so this is to no use of them (unless they want to look up a message from an archive feed and donāt process them). But the far more common scenario is that an unknown hash originates from a feed that they have not subscribed to.
Additionally, yarndās URL schema would then also break, because https://twtxt.net/twt/<hash>
now becomes https://twtxt.net/user/prologic/<hash>
, https://twtxt.net/user/bender/<hash>
and so on. To me, that looks like you would only get hashes if they belonged to this particular user. Of course, you could define rules that if there is a /user/
part in the path, then use a different URL, but this complicates things even more.
Sorry, I donāt like that idea.
@bender@twtxt.net Sorry to disappoint (again): https://blogs.nasa.gov/planetarydefense/2025/02/24/latest-calculations-conclude-asteroid-2024-yr4-now-poses-no-significant-threat-to-earth-in-2032-and-beyond/

button?
I donāt think so, at least the tests I did passed. If youāre pretty sure itās a bug, please create an issue in the repository with the specific case and Iāll investigate it.
There are 2 buttons to make replicas, one makes a replica in the thread where the twt is located (this is the one that should be used the most, as it serves a thread), the other creates a replica to a specific twt.
Iāll let you know a bit about the status: Iām just now implementing the thread screen. There you can be sure where you are. Itās a bit confusing right now, sorry. @arne@uplegger.eu Hi! I love that youāre implementing it! Maybe, when weāre both done, we could test the clients by communicating both.

I havenāt read the entire specification, but I think there is a fundamental design problem. Why would someone put an encrypted message on a public feed that is completely useless to everybody other than the one recipient? This doesnāt make sense to me. It of course depends on the threat model, but wouldnāt one also want to minimize the publicly visible metadata (who is communicating with whom and when) when privately messaging? I feel there are better ways to accomplish this. Sorry, if I miss the obvious use case, please let me know. :-)

Sorry. I went on a 4 day holiday and my router barfed.
@movq@www.uninformativ.de iām sorry if I sound too contrarian. Iām not a fan of using an obscure hash as well. The problem is that of future and backward compatibility. If we change to sha256 or another we donāt just need to support sha256. But need to now support both sha256 AND blake2b. Or we devide the community. Users of some clients will still use the old algorithm and get left behind.
Really we should all think hard about how changes will break things and if those breakages are acceptable.

Iām also not sure what you mean by markdown already being part of it. Of course people can already use Markdown, just like presumably nothing stopped people from using (twt subjects) before they were formally described. But itās not universal; e.g. as a jenny user I just see the plain text.

Hey @sorenpeter@darch.dk, Iām sorry to tell you, but the prev
field in your feedās headers is invalid. š
First, it doesnāt include the hash of the last twt in the archive. Second, and thatās probably more important, it forms an infinite loop: The prev
field of your main feed specifies http://darch.dk/twtxt-archive.txt and that file then again specifies http://darch.dk/twtxt-archive.txt. Some clients might choke on this, mine for example. š Iāll push a fix soon, though.
For reference, the prev
field is described here: https://dev.twtxt.net/doc/archivefeedsextension.html
