Reducing 38 pixels (previous smallest) to 27, inside of a 7x7 square canvas, is a result Iām really happy with. Now it seems I can only shave off single pixels and get a lot worse looking results - to the point it doesnāt even look like my mascot, to me.
There doesnāt seem to be a hard cap for drawing tiny dogs. Itās possible to arrange 5 pixels, in a way someone recognizes them, as some kind of a dog. The record for cats, is currently a single orange pixel: https://youtu.be/gzeK8NKuzmg
The only way to beat that, is either a monitor, with just a single red diode lit, inside one of its pixels, or an image file thatās broken and empty, on purpose.

@xuu That was one of the horror puzzles where I had to look for help. š„“ I modelled my solution after this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2pDSooPLLkI (I canāt explain it better than the video anyway.) It takes a second on my machine and thatās with my own hashmap implementation which is probably not the fastest one.

i am wondering if maybe i need a better heap like a btree backed one instead of just list sort on Dequeue.
I found a bug where i didnt include an open/closed list that seemed to shave off a little. right now it runs in about 70 seconds on my machine.. it takes over the 300s limit when it runs on the testrunner on the same box.. docker must be restricting resources for it.
I might come back to it after i work through improving my code for day 23. Its similar but looking for the longest path instead of shortest.

Chocolate and skumtomtar (literally āfoam santasā, a marshmallow-like candy) are awesome. Theyāre even better with tea. And that combo becomes at least twice as good after a run, shower, and shave. True story.
