Re. 1c97c : We have now [1913 and onwards] a situation in which U.S. citizens have been hoodwinked into accepting paper money which is owned by foreign corporations. More recently, U.S. citizens are allowing themselves to be hoodwinked into accepting bitcoin which is owned by foreign corporations. In both instances, it’s the foreign ownership which is the problem. I’ll want to review my notes on this, - but that’s what I remember just now.

In-reply-to » I'm curious. How many people truly believe blockchain social networks are the future?

@rrraksamam@twtxt.net I honestly dislike web3 platforms, and especially blockchain social media.
It’s just filled with people trying to make a dollar. That is always the focus on those blockchain based social media sites. I like what I can host my self, no money or tokens \ crypto involved etc.
Tried nostr for a while, but I cannot get into that either. Only reason it’s popular is because of jack (that’s just my opinion), and they are always pushing bitcoin lightning network there - and I get tired of that pretty fast.

Retiring My Fiat Donation Portal
I’ve decided to retire my fiat donation portal at donate.lukesmith.xyz, where people could donate to me via debit and credit cards.
This will happen by the end of this calendar year.

It’s more in keeping with my principles of free software, self-ownership and everything else to only allow cryptocurrency donations.
This also is a subtle nudge to people who want to donate in streams to get into Bitcoin and Monero, as opposed to using fiat o … ⌘ Read more

In-reply-to » lol apparently I’ve been suspended from Reddit due to some violation of content policy. However, they haven’t actually told me what content policy that I have violated. How to get unsuspended? Prove that you haven’t violated the content security policy. This is the most asinine thing that I’ve ever seen.

In-reply-to » @prologic Re: Chat system, What if the base specification included a system for per-user arbitrary JSON storage on the server? Kind of like XEP-0049, but expanded upon. Two kinds of objects: public and private. Public objects can be queried by anyone, private objects cannot and must be encrypted with the user's private key. Public keys could be stored there, as well as anything else defined by extensions. Roster, user block list, avatar, etc.

I would HIGHLY recommend reading up on the keybase architecture. They designed device key system for real time chat that is e2e secure. https://book.keybase.io/security

A property of ec keys is deriving new keys that can be determined to be “on curve.” bitcoin has some BIPs that derive single use keys for every transaction connected to a wallet. And be derived as either public or private chains. https://qvault.io/security/bip-32-watch-only-wallets/

Monero and Other Privacy Coins

The Biggest Problem with Cryptocurrency

Most normal people hear the word “cryptocurrency” and assume that means that they are “cryptic” or “private,“but that’s actually a huge, perhaps the hugest misunderstanding of our time and it has some big consequences. The “crypto” in cryptocurrency merely comes from its cryptographic nature.

When it comes to actual privacy, cryptocurrencies are an unmitigated … ⌘ Read more
