@kas@enotty.dk I’m tempted to split my file once per decade.
@johanbove@johanbove.info An iPhone XR as opposed to…?
@von@tilde.town yeah, I stopped posting to it eventually.
@kas@enotty.dk Good stuff kas++ What command or script did you use to split by year?
Just added a WriteFreely instance to my server, so that I can create an “anonymous” blog and be angsty alone
@kas@enotty.dk twtxt.txt file splitting for achival is an interesting idea. Should not need to be yearly only. High volume feeds could split faster. Needs a spec though.
Listing to a Deezer playlist with a mix of Leftfield, Moderat, Amon Tobin, The Chemical Brothers, etc
Feeling really down lately, I have a lot to think, about a lot of stuff, and I’m not good at managing lots of stuff at the same time in my head, makes me want to implode
@kas@enotty.dk that said, I have no idea who bothers looking at the commented-out portions of others’ twtxt files. I only bother on rare occasions. Sometimes, there are interesting easter-eggy things to see.
@kas@enotty.dk doesn’t seem like a bad idea. I suppose I should do that one day too eventually, but I haven’t livetweeted enough Apple events to bloat my file to where I’d want to bother.
@johanbove@johanbove.info I mean, I’d keep this one, but also create another one just to let go thoughts. But yeah, the more I think about it the sillier it gets.
@von@tilde.town Why do you want to keep your twtxt.txt more private if I may ask so?
@mdosch@mdosch.de I thought it was a nice practice to share interesting twtxt-ers through a follow tweet
Added clients and articles sections and added domgoergen’s twtxt.txt to https://indieweb.org/twtxt
Atlantis lies hidden under the waves of the noise floor, where alternative causalities rule universes that use the same atoms as us, but only register to us as noise (and vice versa)
Going to see Terminator Dark Fate next tuesday - somewhat big expectations

Requested my #hacktoberfest T-shirt and sticker pack! Happy I finally managed to participate and contribute this year.
@davebucklin@davebucklin.com Welcome to the IndieWeb! Thanks also for introducing me to #twtxt. Gophering this for sure.
@freemor@freemor.homelinux.net Oh ok, well I’ll let you do your stuff then. Just, try not to break anything from the universe. Thanks
I’ve mostly managed to stick to statically allocated arrays so far, but now I need real ASTs. Just leak memory for the first draft.
Now that feedback on the design has died down (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=21268252; https://lobste.rs/s/xtxlec), back to hacking.
My Chrome uptime has been so long that I got a notification in it to restart it so it could update itself. Do I get some sort of award for this?
I have the feeling that this is going to be a looooong week
mincer ported to patchwerk. missed ya buddy
or as the famous philosopher Vatnam said, to really refer to a thing you need an unbroken causal connection, and that is much easier to establish when the tree in front of you is represented by an actual object in memory as opposed to being patternmatched from a bunch of atoms
@freemor@freemor.homelinux.net Did it try to POST any pills?
vat brains often philosophize over whether they’re actually brains in bodies but usually dismiss it as absurd, why should for example someone go the trouble of engineering the human body and all the world around it as opposed to vats, it just totally fails occam’s razor
I managed to properly configure ddclient for my subdomains. I’m glad I keep learning stuff about self-hosting :)
finally was cold enough to see my breath this morning
Happy birthday to every ~townies !

Easier to deploy than full-size megalith henges, gem necklaces may be used as microlith circles, and will in fact sometimes send even unaware wearers to faerie if they cross the wrong leyline
Just took a raw photo with Halide for the first time. It looks pretty awful compared to its companion JPEG because it’s horribly noisy. Not sure what magic turns awful raws into better-than-JPEG images. Probably lots of know-how.
finally hacked ijanet up to behave like the scheme REPL. very excited about this!
in the house altar, there stand an icon, a buddha, an alexa, a google home, something homebrew that your hacker friend told you would talk to the chaos gods,

@mdosch@mdosch.de Apple refuses to ship GPLv3 software. bash has security bugs that Apple doesn’t want to backport. So they’ve switched default shells again, this time to zsh. (bash and the previous default, tcsh, still ship with the OS.)

@von@tilde.town I moved my family to xmpp. For friends you might consider quicksy that works like WhatsApp but you can reach them via normal xmpp. Maybe you will also find some interesting groupchats there: https://search.jabber.network/rooms/1
The #xmpp newsletter 10/2019 is the first one which got translated to German: https://www.jabber.de/xmpp-newsletter-01-oktober-2019-fosdem-2020-modernisierung-von-xmpp-peer-networks/
grammar tip: the correct plural of house is hice, a single grain of rice is a rouse, and spouse pluralizes to spice (“add some spice to your life”)
@freemor@freemor.homelinux.net Yeah, jabber.org is in a bad shape. I have an old account there and ‘donated’ it to the conversations compliance tester. Was afraid when I saw the result.
should also note that I have been traveling a lot recently, so the heavy speakers do not travel with me. it is difficult to get re-acquainted with them for this reason.
postcard sized art is such a lovely scale for the visual medium. attempting to imagine the sound/temporal version of that
I have nothing to say, but by god I’m going to spend a lot of time looking for tools to help me say it
One hesitates to call these new things ‘books’, they come with cameras and pulse sensors and read you just as much as you read them, and if you don’t take care, you find yourself on page 3000 of a story written just for you, with no one to relate it to
@von@tilde.town Good luck. I wrote poems twice for a girl. They were rather short, the girls name length in lines. And if you read the lines first character from bottom to top you got, … I guess that’s obvious. 😁
Seems useful to have a set of consistent lexical conventions. # for comments; . for lookup; / for metadata. e.g cat ~.conf.git.core.pager
Thinking about https://zge.us.to/dirconf.html; what if cating a directory rendered its contents as a structured file?
@von@tilde.town I am no dev and I have to use what the company uses.
@von@tilde.town I envy you for being able to use #Linux at work.
I used to write poems, but I stopped. Now I want to make a book filled with poems for my gf. I got 2 months, wish me luck
After various attempts to grep for Tss and whatnot, current plan is to just try to binary-search writes to protected memory in the kernel.
Where does https://github.com/ozkl/soso first switch to Ring 3? I want to rip it out and just run everything in Ring 0.
planck keyboard feels 98% natural to me now. I’m using stiff tactile grey cherry switches on them, which feel great to me, but my fingers need to build up strength for long-term use.
I just pushed a fix for https://github.com/mdom/txtnish/issues/11. It seems to work but i have currently no test suite for txtnish, so please don’t hesitate to inform me if anything weird happens with mentions.

rx pixel editor looks seen on HN today looks interesting to me (and the sort of thing I’ve wanted to build), but the vulkan support seems like overkill. Also, my graphics cards drivers are broken on Alpine, so the program probably won’t run. trying anyways.

added paragraph blocks and code blocks to weewiki HTML output. things look decent.

This won’t get me a “Dear Mr. Cook” mention in an Apple event, but I thought it was pretty cool to be able to use my iPad in the kitchen without touching it. Voice Control is pretty good.
it is time to add a test suite for orgparse/weewiki.
I’d say that 75% of the notes I take are never used again. Why spend so much time on the process of taking notes if they’re just going to disappear anyway?
statically generated my twtxt feed here: https://pbat.ch/wiki/twtxt.html. learning how to be social on this thing comes next.
gears seem to turn okay.
Maybe it’s just me getting older, but there is something very satisfying about seeing big chunky text on screen. Currently using an Atari font on my computer. Once your eyes get used to it, it’s actually quite lovely.
@kas@enotty.dk yes, gosrc.io/xmpp is using a lot of fprintf and seems to not do escaping for % 😒
Basically it just compiles all chapters in the right order to html, rewrites the internal links and call lynx on the result

right now, it’s a three step process for me to tweet and upload. gotta make it just one.
I could see me using this. Just need to figure out the best workflow for making ‘tweets’.

the trick to escaping newcomb’s predictor is to start the game twice, and make the first game’s choice depend on the second’s prediction. The resulting simulation stack overflow combined with the box use-after-free will ensure that your copy can simply walk out.
Petrov Day is coming up this Thursday, September 26. What, if anything, is a suitable thing to do in his honor?
@kas@enotty.dk What do you mean by ‘it’? Twtxt? Txtnish? For my bot I actually wanted this behavior when filtering for mentions to also find @mdosch., @mdosch, or (@mdosch). Maybe I should limit it to ignore only one symbol after the search term.
Now alluvasudden I want to post my updates here and to hell with anyone reading them
@kas@enotty.dk It also looks mangled if I post it myself. So the problem seems to be on my side. sigh
@kas@enotty.dk I probably get a slightly-suboptimal lossily-compressed image. Or maybe I get the same image that I would have had I not bothered to give it a preset hint.
I’m not sure I like how homebrew will try to build a package if the download fails. I don’t need a second go binary, really.
@adiabetic@www.frogorbits.com I think my pulse would be high a lot of times if using iOS. I hear of so many problems from #xmpp devs fighting iOS and push. Not having a reliable chat app due to apples design constraints would really piss me off.
I tried cwebp -preset photo -o foo.webp foo.jpeg on a preview image and it was imperceptibly worse at the sizes I expected to show it. Then again, I don’t really care that you can’t read the nutrition labels on a jar in the background of the subject.

This should take a lot less code than an optimizing C compiler. There’ll be no optimizer, but lots of room for the programmer to optimize.
It’s taken a year to get here. I want to take a break, do a Lisp interpreter for fun. Just so I can see a computer boot into a Lisp prompt.
