Oh man, if the EU actually rolled out this horribd idea called ChatControl that actually threatens the security and privacy of secure e2e encrypted messaging like Signal™, fuck me, I’m out 🤦‍♂️ I’ll just rage quit the IT industry and become a luddite. I’m out.

Today I learned how to use TestCafé. It is a E2E framework.
I needed it because I wanted to write a script that would launch a browser in the background, log me in with a username and password, and return the cookie value with the token ID. The goal is to perform tests with the token.

In-reply-to » Still undecided between TiddlyWiki, DokuWiki, Bear, Benotes, Memos, my blog software, standardnotes, apple notes and more. I like them all quite a bit, but standardnotes, the only one that has reall multiplatform is so fucking complicated to host on your own and then they have this stupid offline subscription thing that allows rich text or the block editor that works like notion. I also found codex docs which is really really nice. Unfortunately they lack proper authentication. 1 / 2

I setup Joplin with caddy as the WebDAV server. Works okay. The e2e encryption can get messed up sometimes. Supports markdown and images.

In-reply-to » @prologic Re: Chat system, What if the base specification included a system for per-user arbitrary JSON storage on the server? Kind of like XEP-0049, but expanded upon. Two kinds of objects: public and private. Public objects can be queried by anyone, private objects cannot and must be encrypted with the user's private key. Public keys could be stored there, as well as anything else defined by extensions. Roster, user block list, avatar, etc.

I would HIGHLY recommend reading up on the keybase architecture. They designed device key system for real time chat that is e2e secure. https://book.keybase.io/security

A property of ec keys is deriving new keys that can be determined to be “on curve.” bitcoin has some BIPs that derive single use keys for every transaction connected to a wallet. And be derived as either public or private chains. https://qvault.io/security/bip-32-watch-only-wallets/

Signal Status

Signal is experiencing technical difficulties. We are working hard to restore service as quickly as possible.

One thing I’d like to have one day (and it would be nice if it were integrated into twtxt.net and other pods with a familiar and pleasant user experience on Desktop, Web and Mobile) is an e2e encrypted messaging that is self-hosted and federated that doesn’t suck operationally (so many complicated solutions that exist that are hard to setup even for a Senior DevOps/SRE)
