I am using Nitter, an alternative interface for Twitter, just in case I want to read a thread on Twitter. Previously I hosted the instance directly on my VPS. Now, however, I host the Nitter instance at home, but make it available on the Internet through Tailscale, a little program I wrote called “ProxyExposer”, and Caddy. 🤓 I also briefly tried publishing a WordPress instance from home to the web this way. But I don’t have a use case for WordPress at the moment. ⌘ Read more
I like how Slack preserve /me from IRC, but why is it disabled in threads ?
Peter Saint-Andre: Opinions Weak and Strong
Continuing a thread that I started to explore earlier this year, I’d like to take a closer look at the intensity of opinions. Here as almost everywhere, there is a continuum: we all have opinions we hold strongly and opinions we hold weakly. Not only do the specific contents of these buckets change over time, but in general the intensity of one’s opinions can change over time, too. We’re all familiar with the sophomoric young adult who has strong opinions about everything (yes, I resemb … ⌘ Read more
@movq@www.uninformativ.de No argument that threading is an improvement. But I think (#hash) does that, and I think figuring out how to search should mostly be up to the client.
@prologic@twtxt.net we would want:
- a way to reply to the current thread. We have this.
- a way to reply to a specific twt. Need this. Maybe make all the replies start new conversations?
- check if twt is start of a conversation.. we kinda have this in the main feed with the conversation button. need to extend it for forked convs
- a way to inline first replies. maybe show one or two in the sub thread with a link to view.
- for convenience have a link to parent conv?

“Which is for people, that is for people and objects.” -> From a /lit/ thread.
@prologic@twtxt.net what is the exact syntax neeed for threads to work in the subject, e.g. will (#tsvhqdq) do it? The whole … (#tsvhqdq) thing seems like a bit of overkill. Too many characters.

The typical failure mode of UX is no longer the shaggy-dog story (i.e., the turing tarpit: a lot of build-up for a disappointing conclusion); it’s bunch of shallow one-liners with no connecting thread, which are as funny as they can be for their length but don’t make the most of a set.

Pet peeve: on my work computer, 80% of my lobste.rs comments double-post because of some kind of missing deduplication logic. Then, I have to periodically go through all my threads to delete the duplicates. Sometimes one copy of the post will have 2 upvotes & the other 3.
