@xuu@txt.sour.is @prologic@twtxt.net Yarn.social without threading (as it would be the case in a “truncated” feed) does not make sense to me.

Put another way: Yarn.social is not twtxt. The content that we all have in our feeds really is much closer to a web forum or usenet or whatever. It’s threaded conversations. twtxt, as I believe it was originally intended, are short little status updates – that’s it. The formats of Yarn.social and twtxt might be very similar, but the content is vastly different and, in a way, incompatible. (As such, I think I understand very well that the original twtxt crowd is disgruntled.)

That proposed truncated feed doesn’t really provide any value, if you ask me. 🤔 It’d just be chaotic.

A lot of more work needs to be done, but at least now I got the basic timeline stuff done, took a good while to figure out how to solve it, but now I know. The reason why the statuses are cut short on some is because of html tags and stuff like that - c++ is a bit picky with strings and stuff like that. but I’ll get that sorted as well.
At least I can show the first screenshot. Keep in mind the GUI is not at all finished, I’m working on the basics first, implement all the features, then I work on finishing touches.

@lyse@lyse.isobeef.org when I take him to work I walk him at the parkinglot when I need a break. and on my way home I walk a km or two, and then around the neighbourhood as needed later. But when I go for long walks during the weekend I can walk anywhere from 10km to 20, then the rest is as needed around the house. so he’s well adjusted to short walks as well as long. today he pulled our kids on snow sleds on the street outside here, was really fun :) it was his first time trying that, and I could barely keep up with him. haha.

I happened to be watching some random Youtube video, then this Ad came on, normally they are short 3-5s ads and I just tolerate them (sometimes) – But this particular ad was 20+ mins long! Somehow I kept listening to it too, despite my daughter telling me I could hit that “Skip Ad” button.

What was it you ask?! 😅 It was one of those testimonial-style, hyped up marketing videos of some product called “Gemini 2” (a currency trading app, allegedly), I kept watching all the way through, it was fantastic! 🤣

Then I went and read up on it! …

Alright, check this out. I just kinda completed today’s project of converting a jeans into a saw bag. It’s not fully done, the side seams on the flap need some more hand sewing, that’s for sure. No, I don’t have a sewing machine. Yet?

At first I wanted to put in the saw on the short side, but that would have made for more sewing work and increased material consumption. As a Swabian my genes force me to be very thrifty. Slipping in on the long side had the benefit of using the bottom trouser leg without any modification at all. The leg tapers slightly and gets wider and wider the more up you go. At the bottom it’s not as extreme as at the top.

The bag is made of two layers of cloth for extra durability. The double layers help to hide the inner two metal snap fastener counter parts, so the saw blade doesn’t get scratched. Not a big concern, but why not doing it, literally no added efforts were needed. Also I reckon it cuts off the metal on metal clinking sounds.

The only downside I noticed right after I pressed in the receiving ends of the snap fasteners is that the flap overhangs the bag by quite a lot. I fear that’s not really user-friendly. Oh well. Maybe I will fold it shorter and sew it on. Let’s see. The main purpose is to keep the folding saw closed, it only locks in two open positions.

Two buttons would have done the trick, with three I went a bit overkill. In fact the one in the middle is nearly sufficient. Not quite, but very close. But overkill is a bit my motto. The sides making up the bag are sewed together with like five stitch rows. As said in the introduction, the flap on the hand needs some more love.

Oh, and if I had made it in a vertical orientation I would have had the bonus of adding a belt loop and carrying it right along me. In the horizontal layout that’s not possible at all. The jeans cloth is too flimsy, the saw will immediately fall out if I open the middle button. It’s not ridgid enough. Anyways, I call it a success in my books so far. Definitely had some fun.

So the evolution of my nick is as follows. I had a bicycle that had the word Zephyr written on it. Which means a western wind. That is related to the Greek god Zephyrus.

I liked words where X make a Z sound. And also had a bit of dyslexia so my firs IRC nick was Xypher swapping the y and e.. I would also use the forms Xypherius or just Xypheri.

Because its close hemming to Cypher I found the nick would get used by others.. Though that is not my origin.

Later I would sign websites I created as The X-Urban Underground (where X was short for Xypher) and that evolved to xuu. Pronounced like zoo.

@prologic@twtxt.net I knew you were short sided from day one I saw Yarn. On desktop everything is huge, and I assumed it was to cater short-sightedness. Also, you have enabled underlines on buttons on iOS, bold and bigger fonts, etc., so that was also a give away. Sorry if I digress, but, glasses wouldn’t help? I have to wear mine all the time, otherwise I am also near blind myself!

When I read this I see a a niche, super premium hardware company that managed to acquire tens of thousands of customers by word of mouth. Not only that, their customers are all in-effect self employed or small businesses with huge average revenue per employee. They manage global supply chains, intense competition, all while taking on and managing huge legal/compliance risk. How is is that supposedly “dumb,” criminals can do this, and yet many of us are stretching our intellectual capacities to learn new technologies and maths, developing our nth stupid app, trying to achieve a fraction of the customer traction and revenue that street thugs manage to do every day. Are these people much smarter than average, or does it mean that if you sell something people actually want, literally nothing else matters about your intelligence, education, character, background, or anything at all. When I read these drug stories, it just reinforces for me that growth solves everything. You can succeed with a crew of violent, drug addicted idiots whose only reliable characteristic is short term thinking, and who spend half their time in prison if you have product market fit. What I’m beginning to think is that the “smarter,” people are in a company, the less anyone will want their product.
