I also want to work some more on the yarn desktop client, I miss working on it, polish it and make it more feature complete, and then also make one for snac2/activitypub (or make it into a general client that supports both at the same time).

But that will be later. but Im unsure how software development is done on it, if its easy to for example code your own stuff (c++), and also I have no idea how gui realted things are handled. but that makes it fun as well - figuring out all that stuff.

I need to add multithreading to the desktop client, I have not done that before in c++ - so that’ll be fun to figure out. I need it for the fetching of the timeline so that it happens in a separate thread. That way the GUI does not freeze while fetching the timeline. Also need to add a status bar that can show what the application is working on.

I want to try NixOS again, and then get the yarn desktop client built on that, and then see if I can get the client into their repo. That would be fun to do. If I have time tonight I’ll start on that.

I have not used AI much at all, I have not paid any attention to it. But today I decided to give stablediffusion a test run, I do only have a 1080 card, so it took some tweaking to output 512x256 images, and I must say it works pretty well. I also had to get one of the memory optimized versions. Fun to test.

Got that bike today, and nanook ran home pulling me like a rocket. So fun when training on commands - run, go, left, right works. Avoids all obstacles etc. Was really fun! And for once he’s tired :)

Took my daughter’s kickbike again and let Nanook pull for some kilometres, he was really good today, fun to see him correct around obstacles, and when he looks back at me while running to make sure things are OK. But when I go for long walks during the weekend I can walk anywhere from 10km to 20, then the rest is as needed around the house. so he’s well adjusted to short walks as well as long. today he pulled our kids on snow sleds on the street outside here, was really fun :) it was his first time trying that, and I could barely keep up with him. haha.

Alright, check this out. I just kinda completed today’s project of converting a jeans into a saw bag. It’s not fully done, the side seams on the flap need some more hand sewing, that’s for sure. No, I don’t have a sewing machine. Yet?

At first I wanted to put in the saw on the short side, but that would have made for more sewing work and increased material consumption. As a Swabian my genes force me to be very thrifty. Slipping in on the long side had the benefit of using the bottom trouser leg without any modification at all. The leg tapers slightly and gets wider and wider the more up you go. At the bottom it’s not as extreme as at the top.

The bag is made of two layers of cloth for extra durability. The double layers help to hide the inner two metal snap fastener counter parts, so the saw blade doesn’t get scratched. Not a big concern, but why not doing it, literally no added efforts were needed. Also I reckon it cuts off the metal on metal clinking sounds.

The only downside I noticed right after I pressed in the receiving ends of the snap fasteners is that the flap overhangs the bag by quite a lot. I fear that’s not really user-friendly. Oh well. Maybe I will fold it shorter and sew it on. Let’s see. The main purpose is to keep the folding saw closed, it only locks in two open positions.

Two buttons would have done the trick, with three I went a bit overkill. In fact the one in the middle is nearly sufficient. Not quite, but very close. But overkill is a bit my motto. The sides making up the bag are sewed together with like five stitch rows. As said in the introduction, the flap on the hand needs some more love.

Oh, and if I had made it in a vertical orientation I would have had the bonus of adding a belt loop and carrying it right along me. In the horizontal layout that’s not possible at all. The jeans cloth is too flimsy, the saw will immediately fall out if I open the middle button. It’s not ridgid enough. Anyways, I call it a success in my books so far. Definitely had some fun.

Had a great day today. Fun at work, went for a long walk and did my grocery shopping, have set a dough for tomorrow’s breakfast. And finished writing stuff that I’ve longed to do.
