二皇子以滕梓荆妻女、范思辙以及送给费老的羊肠手套威胁范闲逼迫其进行合作，但是范闲的第一季见到庆帝都不行跪拜之礼，他的人设不会允许自己委曲求全被二皇子拿捏。所以范闲想到了假死脱身，只要他一死，就可能在短时间内解除亲友的安危。他也没想过隐瞒，所以一回京就上殿眼含热泪和庆帝陈述自己的罪行。这不但巧妙破解了二皇子的设局，也能将范闲从棋子转变为执棋者，化被动为主动，接下来的剧情将围绕范闲之死展开，各方势力也由暗到明。
