Itâs basically what my own blob is too đ â The thing is though, if you see @lyse@lyse.isobeef.orgâs posts, they get pretty long, there really isnât any limit to the length of posts you can make in your Twtxt feed in the first place Haha đ€Ł
@zyak@twtxt.z85b.xyz Folder of text files with auto-generated index by the webserver, yeah, that comes close. Like meilloâs blogs: https://marmaro.de/lue/ https://marmaro.de/apov/
@david@daiwei.me I use OpenBSDâs smtpd, which was super easy to set up. It gets a little bit more complicated these days because you also need a DKIM setup, so every outgoing mail goes from smtpd to dkimproxy and back to smtpd. And then dovecot for POP3/IMAP (has basically nothing to do with the other two).
Iâm cheating a bit, though: I use config management on top, which means that all the UNIX users and mailboxes and directories are created by that. If you were to do that manually, it would be a huge pain.
Maybe Iâll write a blog post about this some day, just for fun. đ€
JMAP? Never heard of it.
https://movq.de/blog/postings/2026-10-08/0/POSTING-en.html @movq@www.uninformativ.de Fuck me dead and bury me pregnant!
I made a write up about how I came about wanting my own twtxt client.
Now my twtxt client called twtxtk is released. Its a python tkinter client. The download is there as well with the source (its a python file).
https://jasonsanta.xyz/blog/twtxtk-a-new-twtxt-client
@itsericwoodward@itsericwoodward.com Iâm not a hardcore OS/2 fan, either, but it does spark a great deal of nostalgia for me. đ For example: https://movq.de/blog/postings/2024-12-25/0/POSTING-en.html
Crazy, who comes up with things like that?
I didnât come up with it, but I was close, I guess. DOS is so small, you donât have much of a choice but to search for âanything related to timeâ. There arenât that many syscalls/functions. Youâll quickly notice that thereâs no global tick counter. So what else is there? Hmm, âget the mtime of a fileâ is pretty much the only other time-related thing. And which file is âstableâ, probably allocated just once at boot? Mark Aitchison tried to use NUL, which is a pretty good idea. Thinking about it in retrospect, stdin does indeed make more sense, though, because that object really does get allocated just once at âbootâ and then it stays the same. Thatâs not guaranteed for NUL (although just as likely).
But, it is possible in DOS to move âthe consoleâ to a serial port:
I wonder what that does to my little uptime program. :-)
Today, I also learned that
-Ris an alias for-rinrm.
Ah, I remember that. Dug it up and saved it in the blog: -R is more portable/consistent: http://movq.de/blog/postings/2026-09-30/0/POSTING-en.html
That was an interesting read about C:
Oh, and only 29 clients have requested the actual image:
29 movq.de/blog/postings/2026-09-25/0/bine-initial.png
Assuming that thatâs an actual human being whoâs interested in the content, then itâd be less than 1% of the hits that I get.
Iâd estimate that ~90% of the traffic I get is some kind of non-human / non-browser thing.
Here are some numbers on the recent blog post:
3804 movq.de/blog/postings/2026-09-25/0/POSTING-en.html
404 movq.de/blog/postings/2026-09-25/0/t/bine-initial.png.jpg
The HTML page is obviously the blog post itself. The image is the thumbnail of the âopenerâ image: Thatâs the thing that youâre pretty much guaranteed to see when you open the post in a browser.
But out of the 3800 hits on the HTML page, only 400 (~10%) are also requesting that image.
So ⊠itâs ~90% noise, right?

@movq@www.uninformativ.de https://movq.de/blog/postings/2026-08-05/0/POSTING-en.html Very interesting! I basically never analyze binary files, but this were some great thoughts on that subject. I hope to remember them when I find myself in the situation to look at binaries more closely.
@movq@www.uninformativ.de Regarding https://movq.de/blog/postings/2026-08-16/0/POSTING-en.html, how often do you edit the first commit? A good mate does the same for at least a whole decade, probably more. I never found myself in this situation. Even though I mess with commits on a daily basis. Just never the first one so far. 8-)
Are you aware of the Residential Proxy pest?
https://spur.us/blog/smart-tv-apps-residential-proxy-sdks
This explains the access patterns that I see in my logs.
Itâs funny, because I used to warn years ago that this might happen, and then I lost track of this topic. Now here we are and itâs a real issue.
There you go: https://movq.de/blog/postings/2026-07-10/0/POSTING-en.html
@GabesArcade@gabesarcade.com The no-JS part is one thing, but you also have to disable the (nowadays common) forced-HTTP-to-HTTPS-redirect, because those old browsers canât do modern crypto. And make sure that your webserver serves the correct page even if no Host header is sent by the client. And donât even think about serving UTF-8 or even just putting utf-8 in the content type. đ
And for the JPEG thumbnails I pass a special flag to ImageMagick so that IBM Web Explorer from OS/2 wonât trip. đ€Ł And always use link rel="stylesheet" for CSS, because some browsers render inlined CSS as literal text. And ⊠probably more that I forgot by now. đ
@david@daiwei.me Not sure, actually. Letâs see. Those are the ones where I still have the original disks (or have bought them on eBay again):
- SuSE Linux 6.4 (itâs a massive 7 CD distro with a huge manual, best thing ever)
- OS/2 2.1
- OS/2 Warp 3 (red and blue spine because
$reasons)
- OS/2 Warp 4
- PC DOS 7
- MS-DOS 6.22
- Windows 3.1

- Windows 95 C
- Windows 98
- Windows NT 4 Workstation (still in the mail, though đ

(Plus a few âclassicâ office products as can be seen here: https://movq.de/blog/postings/2024-05-23/0/POSTING-en.html )
@citizenalex@citizenalex.envs.net Correct.
I just read @kat@yarn.girlonthemoon.xyzâs blog post over here:
https://bubblegum.girlonthemoon.xyz/articles/learning-to-code-like-it-s-the-90s
Jesus, it must be so overwhelming for young people to get started with programming.
When I started programming, there was the built-in ROM BASIC of that PC and probably a bit of BASIC on a floppy, and that was it. Nowadays? Millions of libraries and frameworks and languages and what not â and, much worse, thereâs the expectation that you need to make something fancy. When I started, printing something and understanding IF was good enough.
@movq@www.uninformativ.de https://movq.de/blog/postings/2026-07-03/0/POSTING-en.html Oh yeah, the toolbar handles. You could actually move the toolbars around and sometimes even customize them. I have no evidence, but to me it feels like a lot of programs donât allow that anymore nowadays.
@arne@uplegger.eu Ah, ein Jahresband. Man darf dann auf BeitrÀge dazu im Blog demnÀchst gespannt sein. :-)
Interesting, HTTPS is almost twice as slow as plain HTTP on my server (~72 ms vs. ~135 ms):

I complain about this a lot:
https://movq.de/v/e7cb49eefb/hiccupfx
But to be honest, my blog did the same thing â to some degree.
This is fixed now. The trick is to add width and height to all <img> tags. That way, modern browsers know how much space to reserve for the image. Without this, they just reserve zero space, so when the image finally loads, you get jumpy layout.
This effect is even worse when you use <img loading="lazy"> â which I can finally use, now that the jumpy layout has been fixed. đ„ł
@movq@www.uninformativ.de Oh my goodness, what an adventure, hahaha! :-) https://movq.de/blog/postings/2026-06-25/0/POSTING-en.html
Numbered headings in blog posts, yay or nay?
Biggest problem of having them: Links to section anchors (like bla.html#my-first-section) will break if I add a section later on. đ€
Speaking of UIs, this is how Thunderbird looks now:
So we continue to let every program make up its own UI style (and then we complain that âthe Linux desktopâ looks âmessyâ and âinconsistentâ). I guess this uses GTK, but it doesnât look like any other GTK program. Buttons, tabs, drop-downs, whatever, itâs all different. It even has its own subwindow system (i.e., popups that you canât move).
I didnât say this in the blog post, but Iâm convinced that programmers these days absolutely positively hate everything that looks even remotely like Windows 95 or Motif â with a passion. I see that in my coworkers as well, they really canât stand it. Itâs an emotional thing.
@movq@www.uninformativ.de Regarding https://movq.de/blog/postings/2026-06-16/0/POSTING-en.html:
In my opinion, the KDE 3.5 menu was organized way better than the Windows Start menu. Granted, a typical KDE installation had much more applications to offer, too. So, there was more need to get it right. And it probably was also later in time.
Isnât Notepad++ and Python cheating!? :-D
Crazy story on the clockâs seconds. I never heard of that before. Neat.
Yeah, UI these days is horrible. (Thatâs why my own TUIs suck, too!)
Oh god, finally: The thumbnail generator for my blog now renders a typical âplayâ icon for videos.
Saves me the need to write âthis is a videoâ every time. đŹ
Updated draft: http://movq.de/blog/drafts/changelog/POSTING-en.html
Iâll probably publish this later today. Or maybe not at all. Itâs one of those topics that might cause outrage because Iâm getting it all wrong. đ€Ș

In parts. I write everything in Markdown (itâs online, even: https://movq.de/blog/postings/2026-05-29/0/POSTING-en.md), plus a few Vim shortcuts (to generate thumbnails, for example), and then python-markdown renders it: https://pypi.org/project/Markdown/ This process is wrapped in a shell script, like âre-render every page if the .md file is newer than the .html fileâ and thatâs mostly it. And the Atom feed generator is completely custom. đ€
