@movq@www.uninformativ.de @itsericwoodward@itsericwoodward.com Hahaha, a festival, indeed! :-D There was also āRaupenkriegā (caterpillar war): jumping against each other in sleeping bags. I reckon that counts as pogo or mosh pit.
And back in the days, we had wonderful deep mud all around us, too! In extreme years we even needed to leave the camp ground for a day and walk to a gym with all the kids. There was just too much rain and the creek dangerously high.
We once had an actual creek running through the dining tent before the kids arrived. Luckily, it didnāt originate from the official creek, but the water came down the hillside. Unimaginable today with all these droughts in summer. Many creeks around here are dried up for several weeks, if not months now.
There you go, enjoy my favorite selection of yummy chocolate on the ground!

It was a question of the mindset. Once we supervisors just made the best out of it and tried to had fun, the kids typically didnāt mind the mess either. Besides building huts, one of the most favorite things ever was actually āMatschschƶpfenā (scooping mud). The kids scooped puddles into wheel barrows using giant soup ladles from the kitchen. āSorry kids, time is up for today. Whoever sits in the closing circle first gets to go first tomorrow.ā Unfortunatly, I donāt find any photos from that.
@prologic@twtxt.net Well, 15 shows the site. On the left, I had a roll mat on a tarp. I borrowed some āNVA tarpsā from the scouts for this trip. The scouts got them from the National Peopleās Army, the German Democratic Republicās armed forces after Germany was reunited. Theyāre 1.75m x 1.75m in size and weigh 1.3kg, quite heavy, but super awesome. One tarp on the bottom, another one to cover up the clothes, shoes and sleeping bag in order to protect against the thaw. Finally, a mosquito net over all that, hung from a rope between two trees.
My mate just used a hammock with a mozzie net on the right hand side. The third tarp served as the luxurious bedside carpet. :-)
We sat on my second tarp to chill and enjoy the sunset and surroundings. It was nice to notice birds etc. die down. It took a really long time for the last light to fade away. Since we have a very high risk of forest fires, we of course couldnāt have a camp fire. But after all the exhaustion, I didnāt even miss it for one second.
Since we had dinner at home before leaving, all we brought were two lye rolls, two grain rolls, two brezels, some sausage and chocolate biscuits for breakfast. From the 2.5l of water, I ended up using 2l. Itās always good to have a little extra, despite the unnecessary weight. We had brekkie a few kilometers further on a bench in the shade. The first bench was already in direct sun.
Our camp site was maybe 30m to the side and a few meters down of a summit path hidden behind some trees and bushes. We were quite lucky, the other side of the hill got quite a bit of a breeze at night. We could hear the leaved treetops making much more noise behind us.
@movq@www.uninformativ.de Yes, these kind of dogs should really be strictly forbidden!
Itās not illegal if you own the forest or ask the owner. :-)
@david@daiwei.me Yeah, no clue. But my mate said the dog is disqualified from such adventures in the future. :-)
The temps were supposed to hit 14°C just before sunrise. Since we didnāt bring a thermometer, I canāt tell for sure. I was rather hot in my sleeping bag, so I had to pull out my arms every now and then. My mateās sleeping bag was a little lighter and, unfortunately, the zipper jammed up. Since it didnāt close all the way, it felt quite a bit cold I was told in the morning. When we got up at 6ish (we said, we donāt care about time at all), it was probably already 16°C if not more. I brought a jumper, but a t-shirt was already nice enough to wear. The jumper just served as my pillow. The mercury raised by the minute then.
Yeah, I circled the spot with a biro to keep an eye on it. Until now, thereās absolutely nothing to see. Looks like I got lucky.

@bender@twtxt.net Thatās the best one of them. An almonds cake with hazelnut chocolate glaze. The one in front is similar, but with chocolate only. Gingerbread on the right. But it develops the best flavor and consistency only in a few weeks, right now itās quite hard like a rock, but it will soften up.
All those years I always said that my teammates are THE VERY BEST I ever had. Fuck me, look at that, I didnāt leave the company, just changed projects and this is my farewell present:
How absolutely beautiful is that, Iām in awe! Now I feel even worse deserting. :ā-(This emblem is the fleur-de-lis of the world scout movement: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Organization_of_the_Scout_Movement#WOSM_emblem I reckon I must have mentioned casually that Iām a scout. ;-)

@movq@www.uninformativ.de Yeah, I certainly had better ones. :-D Despite I can already laugh at the hot chocolate spill, Iām still assimilating the clamp failure, though.
Fuck me! I made a giant mess by knocking over the fresh cup of hot chocolate. I completely soaked my desk, t-shirt, pants, socks, house shoes, seat pad, chair, footstool, chair mat and floor. Showering beforehand was well worth it. :-D Letās see where I will locate the smell of spoiled milk in the next days. Maybe underneath the baseboard? Iāll take bets.
At least my aiming skills are pretty good. I missed keyboard, mouse and other electronics.
I had Chick-fil-A breakfast today (sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit, hash browns, coffee, and orange juice). Then at lunch my work place offered hot dogs. I had two (kosher, if that matters), plus a coke, a macadamia nuts cookie, and a small chocolate brownie.
So, here I am, at home, feeling hungry but guilty and refusing to eat anything else for the rest of the day. To top it off, I have only clocked 4,000 steps today (and I donāt feel like walking). I am going to hell, am I?

@prologic@twtxt.net Yeah, I got some cash that I will put aside for a rainy day. I initially wanted to buy a kickbike for the dog with that, but he should not be pulling too much until next yearās fall, so I decided not to buy that now.
Iāll put the money aside for next year.
Other then that I got a new harness for me that I use for the dog, weāve had one but this one is more solid and fits better to my size. That is super useful - and will last for many many years.
Also got a new hiking jacket, cotton jacket, green, outdoor type jacket, that is also something I really wanted, since I do not like those synthetic jackets (sweat too much in that). Also got some chocolate from my kids (Which I love). So Iām very pleased with the gifts :)

Iāve been experimenting. Iāve been concocting a recipe for vegan kugel, and rediscovering little features and edges of my website Iād forgotten I baked in. Like chocolate chips hidden in an oatmeal raisin cookie.

Chocolate and skumtomtar (literally āfoam santasā, a marshmallow-like candy) are awesome. Theyāre even better with tea. And that combo becomes at least twice as good after a run, shower, and shave. True story.
One step forward: skipping the extra quesadilla at lunch. Two steps back: supplementing lunch with the entirety of a milk-chocolate bar (960 calories) that was at the absolutely most perfect temperature, and washing it down with about a cup of milk, maybe more. One step forward: burning 800 calories by walking an hour on a treadmill.
