Google Requiring All ‘G Suite Legacy Free Edition’ Users To Start Paying for Workspace this Year
An anonymous reader shares a report: In 2020, G Suite became Google Workspace as part of a mass reorganization of the company’s apps for the “future of work.” Various plans were migrated over, and Google is now finally getting rid of the G Suite legacy free edition. “Google Apps” for bu … ⌘ Read more
Oh well that means goodbye to our grandfathered FREE Google Apps domain/account 🤦♂️ It was good while it lasted some ~16 years 😆 cc @kt84@twtxt.net @becrobinson86@twtxt.net
@ullarah@txt.quisquiliae.com Considering the cost to me if I were to pay Google Workspace or something equivalent, more than ~$60 AUD per month for the users I have on my @shortcircuit.net.au
domain – I’m considering migrating off, to my own infra (kind of the point of Self Hosted – the company – and why I’m doing this) and probabpy pay for a MX backup service (because Internet in Australia is shit).
Q: Do you know of any good MX backup services from any Aussie hosters/datacenters? 🤔 (I’d rather keep it in-country if I can)
Hmmm 🤔 According to some of the comments on this reddit post I may not have to really worry or care about a backup MX.
@fastidious@arrakis.netbros.com Yeah I believe you are correct. The RFC(s) if implemented correctly state at least 4-5 days of retries. This is unlikely, almost zero chance of happening despite how bad Australian NBN and Australian Internet is 😂
So here are basically my options:
- Migrate to Google Workspace at a cost of $70/month (based on the no. of users on my domain)
- Migrate to an Australian Email provider Fastmail at a cost of $40/month
- Migrate to the Mills DC infra at a cost of $0/month
Hmmm tough choice 🤔 cc @kt84@twtxt.net @hellson@twtxt.net @becrobinson86@twtxt.net @off_grid_living@twtxt.net
@prologic@twtxt.net as long as it is user friendly. not all the users have computer science degrees.. 🤪
