In-reply-to » I'm compiling Minetest right now; feels like my kids shouldn't know. :D

@prologic@twtxt.net Ah, the blurb is “[a]n open source voxel game engine,” but, to me, it’s indistinguishable from Minecraft (except it’s free ^x^). Ages back, I helped bridge the IRC and Matrix sides of a community based on a Minetest mod for what’s coined modular politics; looks like I may get roped into carrying on the work, lol. I consider it time well spent, though, as my kids love that interactive Minecraft stuff on Netflix; only a matter of time ‘til they learn they can play it! ;)

@bender@twtxt.net I think it’s normal to go through phases with this sort of thing. (Or maybe I’m projecting.) But, yeah, if you aren’t developing some sort of relationships with peers on a platform, I’d say what you’re talking about is inevitable.

In-reply-to » System notice: pod going down for upgrade now :)

Wow, that was nasty. Even had some 502 Bad gateway messages, so I thought that yarn wasn’t being published. I’ve backed out the activitypub feature for now.

In-reply-to » Ladies and gentlemen, it is with sincere pleasure that I inform you of my recent application for British citizenship having been approved.

Thanks, @adi@twtxt.net! In theory, it should’ve taken five years. In reality, it took me twice that time because I kept resetting that ‘clock’ by changing visas. Wasn’t cheap either, let me tell you! :P

@bender@twtxt.net Got my Matrix bridging services to both IRCNow and Telegram restored in the last few days. Plus my homeserver can now handle rooms with five-figure membership, thanks to the aforementioned migration to beefier kit. I’m havin’ a ball! 😁

In-reply-to » I've been enjoying Metafilter for the most part, but there are way too many posts about ChatGPT. I finally figured out how My Me-Fi works so that I can have a view of the site without all the "omg ChatGPT did X" posts.

@abucci@anthony.buc.ci Proper old skool. ;) Not much of that ‘net era has survived, let alone kept its calibre. (Lookin’ at you, /. )

In-reply-to » Familiarising myself with pgbackrest. Need to make sure this extended service outage isn't repeated.

@bender@twtxt.net Thanks! :) Learned loads along the way as well, to where I was able to recover another database dump (for a different service) just by changing the locale in the dump file and creating the associated user ahead of the restore.

Latest attempt is using pg_dumpall; that and the restore will be done using 13.9 binaries (for different architectures, of course). Can’t say I’m feeling particularly optimistic…
