FTR, I’m seeing veeeeeeeeery few actual git clone operations in the logs. Most crawlers simply don’t do that and rely on the Git history being available as HTML pages.

So that’s a win. (For now.)

And back in the days, we had wonderful deep mud all around us, too! In extreme years we even needed to leave the camp ground for a day and walk to a gym with all the kids. There was just too much rain and the creek dangerously high.

We once had an actual creek running through the dining tent before the kids arrived. Luckily, it didn’t originate from the official creek, but the water came down the hillside. Unimaginable today with all these droughts in summer. Many creeks around here are dried up for several weeks, if not months now.

It was a question of the mindset. Once we supervisors just made the best out of it and tried to had fun, the kids typically didn’t mind the mess either. Besides building huts, one of the most favorite things ever was actually “Matschschöpfen” (scooping mud). The kids scooped puddles into wheel barrows using giant soup ladles from the kitchen. “Sorry kids, time is up for today. Whoever sits in the closing circle first gets to go first tomorrow.” Unfortunatly, I don’t find any photos from that.

@arg@twtpub.com You actually can, but we highly discourage it and I haven’t really built “Edit” / “Delete” functionality in the Twtxt App that I know you’re using 😅 Twtxt being purely decentralised, meaning that there are absolutely zero decentralised, with the exception of the twtpub.com service you’re using to reduce as much friction as possible for newcomers to try things, makes supporting threads a bit of a controversial topic 😆 – In the end we are sticking with the Hash v2 extension, making threads use content addressing, so even if you did delete/edit a Twt, you have to be carefuly it hasn’t already been replied to in the ecosystem 🤣

Okay I’m fixing this in lextwt, yarnd and twtxt.app (takes a different path). Soon you’ll be able to write shit™ like (<this>) and it’ll get escaped and rendered correctly on the page. Basically you are really writing HTML here, but not intending to do so, Twtxt never supported HTML, and I don’t think it ever should. We extended the format to support basic Markdown, and I think that’s where it should end.

Probably time we wrote a Spec for this really.

Ahh no I was wrong. this is being stripped at the Markdown parsing level due to “unsafe” HTML. Which of course is a bit hard to tell between what is safe and unsafe HTML.

I think the problem here is that (i.e: <foo>) is being treated as HTML, which the browser renders as nothing, because that’s not even a valid element it understands how to render. Hmmm 🤔

Okay, so, my website also includes my code / git repos, and those are made browsable by stagit. What I don’t like about this (these days) is that this includes all the diffs of my commits. In other words: All my code.

This makes it super easy for malicious crawlers to slurp up valuable data. I don’t like that.

And make sure that your webserver serves the correct page even if no Host header is sent by the client. And don’t even think about serving UTF-8 or even just putting utf-8 in the content type. 😅 And for the JPEG thumbnails I pass a special flag to ImageMagick so that IBM Web Explorer from OS/2 won’t trip. 🤣 And always use link rel="stylesheet" for CSS, because some browsers render inlined CSS as literal text. And … probably more that I forgot by now. 😂
