Dank der Ausrüstungsüberprüfung im Materiallager haben wir demletzt festgestellt, dass gleich zwei Spinnen (so Metallketten, an denen die Jurtendächer hochgezogen werden) fehlen. Ein Probeaufbau – und sei es nur unter Laborbedingungen – lohnt sich in jedem Fall. Improvisieren zu können ist zwar von Vorteil, aber wenn es sich vermeiden lässt, fängt der Urlaub gleich ein wenig entspannter an. :-)

Defizitverfahren angekündigt
Seit November steht es im Raum, am Mittwoch hat die Europäische Kommission tatsächlich den ersten Schritt zur Einleitung eines EU-Defizitverfahrens gegen Österreich gemacht. Nach der Feststellung eines übermäßigen Defizits kündigte sie an, ein Verfahren zu empfehlen. Em reacção à enorme quantidade de votos nulos nestas eleições nos votos por correspondência (outra vez) porque os eleitores não entendem o processo de votação, aparece um delegado a dizer “é por isso que o voto eletrónico é urgente!”

Ora, eu fico que é precisamente prova do contrário:

1. então o estado ainda não conseguiu implementar o voto por correspondência de forma funcional, e achamos que vai conseguir implementar um sistema de votação que tem um grau de complexidade de uma ofdem altamente superior?
   
2. os eleitores não percebem como funciona o sistema de voto por correspondência, e vão entender o desenho de um sistema de voto eletrónico?

“A coalition of determined open-source software (OSS) advocates and a handful of technology experts working in the European Commission set out in 2004 to end Microsoft’s monopoly. They almost succeeded. This article reveals how they managed to change the EU’s software policies, made Microsoft lobbyists work overtime - and in the end, and despite their best efforts, could not withstand the power of proprietary companies’ lobbying campaigns.

Drawing on the Multiple Streams Framework, the article explains the European Commission’s decision to promote OSS and open standards in 2004, and its puzzling decision to reverse course just a few years later, in 2010, despite its unchanged rhetoric about the benefits of openness. The analysis reveals three key factors that drove the changes in the EU’s policies.

In 2004, OSS advocates managed to frame the EU’s dependency on proprietary software as a problem – and the promotion of OSS and open standards as the solution.

In 2010, #Microsoft and other proprietary companies used their existing connections in Brussels to sow doubt about the maturity and cost of #OSS among #EU policymakers.”

I’ve just released version 1.0 of twtxt.el (the Emacs client), the stable and final version with the current extensions. I’ll let the community maintain it, if there are interested in using it. I will also be open to fix small bugs.
I don’t know if this twt is a goodbye or a see you later. Maybe I will never come back, or maybe I will post a new twt this afternoon. But it’s always important to be grateful. What will become of me? I have created a twtxt fork called Texudus (https://texudus.readthedocs.io/). I want to continue learning on my own without the legacy limitations or technologies that implement twtxt. It’s not a replacement for any technology, it’s just my own little lab. I have also made a fork of my own client and will be focusing on it for a while. I don’t expect anyone to use it, but feedback is always welcome.

@arne@uplegger.eu I’m very glad I only rarely have to deal with .docx & Co. And when I have to, 99% is in read mode only. Even though, I don’t think that Markdown is the best choice, I use it on a daily basis. Some things, like links, in reStructuredText are better in my opinion.

Jira just resists to switch to Markdown and forces us to use its silly markup language.

For real typesetting, LaTeX is the way to go. But I very, very rarely do that.
