Another work week just flew by.

@prologic@twtxt.net the new product was GPTs. A way to create tailored bots for specific use cases. https://openai.com/blog/introducing-gpts (fun fact: I did an internal hackathon where we made something like this for $work onboarding. And I won a prize!)

The competed project is poe https://quorablog.quora.com/Introducing-creator-monetization-for-Poe which is basically the same idea. Make a AI bot tailored to a specific domain of knowledge. And monitize it.

The timing fits very well as openAI announced it just a few weeks ago.

@movq@www.uninformativ.de I lasted for a long time.. Not sure where or when it was “got”. We had been having a cold go around with the kiddos for about a week when the wife started getting sicker than normal. Did a test and she was positive. We tested the rest of the fam and got nothing. Till about 2 days later and myself and the others were positive. It largely hasn’t been too bad a little feaver and stuffy noses.

But whatever it was that hit a few days ago was horrible. Like whatever switch in my head that goes to sleep mode was shut off. I would lay down and even though I felt sleepy, I couldn’t actually go to sleep. The anxiety hit soon after and I was just awake with no relief. And it persisted that way for three nights. I got some meds from the clinic that seemed to finally get me to sleep.

Now the morning after I realized for all that time a part of me was missing. I would close my eyes and it would just go dark. No imagination, no pictures, nothing. Normally I can visualize things as I read or think about stuff.. But for the last few days it was just nothing. The waking up to it was quite shocking.

Though its just the first night.. I guess I’ll have to see if it persists. 🤞

Last year I set out to rekindle my reading habit. That went well. This year’s reading has been enjoyable, but I’m not cozy with the ratio of non-fiction to fiction I’ve read this year…non-fiction (especially of the computing persuasion) far out balances the fiction I’ve read. I think this is mostly because I’ve been mired amidst a fiction book that I’ve found to be a slog…but enjoyable, too. I’d have abandoned it and moved on, elsewise. Onward!

Been some busy days this week, even though I have some time off now. Today me and Marlyn had some time for ourselves - and her mother watched our kids, so we went out to eat at a resturant, which we very rarely do, was nice to do that. I had some nachos, was really nice. Also bought one of those popcorn machines for our kids, because they always burn the microwave popcorn (not their fault - its the microwave thas weird), so now they can safely make popcorn :)

My internet is down until these people repave the driveway which could take weeks due to rain. I don’t have unlimited data, either.

Just 2 days at the office this week, then rest of the week is free time :) woho!

Got a hold of it about 10 years ago, cost a lot, but it was worth it. I run openbsd on it, and have to compile everything on it. took over 2 weeks to compile sylpheed email client on it LOL.

I think that activitypub in yarn is a great feature! And also one of the easier ones to set up and get going.
And as I said last week - I think it’s a important features - and will drive adoption.
It is optional as well - so if one does not want it - just not turn that feature on.

I personally was missing the fact that I could not easily follow others before you added activitypub, but now I can choose to follow them, which is great.

The company I work work added a hybrid solution after covid restrictions lifted, we can work x amount of days a week from home.
Which was a great solution. Covid proved that everyone could work from home and still meet the project demands.
Personally I prefer the office, even if I have to be there alone (I worked for months alone there). But I also like the flexibility when I need it.

I’ve been experimenting. I’ve been concocting a recipe for vegan kugel, and rediscovering little features and edges of my website I’d forgotten I baked in. Like chocolate chips hidden in an oatmeal raisin cookie.

One chip most recently re-discovered: support for per-page custom styles?! All I gotta do is include an optional bit of meta data, bespoke-css, that points to a style sheet. 3rd repair procedure to fix brain bleed was a success. I have a few more scans and follow ups, but, knock wood I think I’m through at this point.

I went in for what was supposed to be my final brain scan, a diagnostic angiogram (don’t look that up). The good news is that the repair has officially cured my brain bleed! I’ve been lost in my DAW for a week now. Making music – especially something along the lines of Metal with actual instruments, not just synthesizers – is so hard. 😩 Makes you appreciate the work of all those artists out there a lot more.

New day at the office, been a nice first week after vacation so far, but weekend is always appreciated!

Kids are in bed, dog is sleeping, Marlyn is watching Tv, and I’m on the computer trying to figure out what to do for the rest of the night. Last week of vacation now, so I get more and more interrested in doing things on the computer. Played around a bit with my Risc-v SBC today (Mangopi), it runs debian, got everything updated and all that, thinking about setting up a webserver on it. It has 512mb ram, so it should be fine to host some static website on it.
