Dmytro Prudnikov, former product designer at Komoot, who was still featured last December in a post on LinkedIn, but got, as many others, fired, posted an emotional video on YouTube. Together, he and a lot of other former colleagues, they spent some time together for a last gathering. ⌘ Read more

My music listening is inconsistent. I don’t listen to much music, sometimes weeks without any music streaming at all. And when I do, I often listen to some automatic playlists with recommendations from YouTube. I don’t have any specific artists I always listen too. Furthermore, I don’t even have a specific genre I like the most, often it’s something electronic. ⌘ Read more

Using AI to build a tactical shooter
This video demonstrates a nice mental model of how to structure AI assisted programming for building prototypes (planning stage and implementation stage), how to increase speed by varying the input (audio vs. text), along with different smaller tactics to improve the process.

YouTube just went from this:

To this:

Why.

Red for “activated” and dark gray for “deactivated” was easy to recognize.

Now we have light gray for “activated” and dark gray for “deactivated”. It’s clearly worse.

Why, why, why.

In-reply-to » Sometimes things go wrong when buying CDs second-hand. I bought an album quite cheap – but as it turned out, they only checked the cover, not the content, so I got something else instead which is actually much more expensive. 🤣

The album I got by accident is starting to grow on me. Not that bad. 🤔 It’s Dredg – El Cielo, btw: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4JB8rmXaO8&list=PLRASiMqDV8psZSFQi7nUX4p0R8oRHbUy_&index=1

What do you think I just learned about in this awesome Computerphile video with Matt Godbolt called “Subroutines in Low Level Code”? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1su3lAh-k4o

Here’s the plot twist, the phrase “till the cows come home”. Hahaha, I never heard this before, but I love it! It’s always interesting to me to hear English sayings. Sometimes we have the same in German, sometimes – like in this case – entirely different ones. It’s fascinating that even though one hasn’t come across proverbs, it’s typically still clear from the context what’s meant.

Yep, some unexpected language stuff. ;-)

foss-north 2025
I attended foss-north, a free / open source conference covering both
software and hardware from the technical perspective, at Chalmers
Conference Center in Gothenburg on April 14 & 15. A great conference.
Lots of interesting talks:

Nobody want to be a shitty programmer. The question is: Do you do anything not to not be one?
Reading blogs or social media and watching YouTube videos is fun. After them, your code may be a little better, of course. But you need a lot. You need to study! Read good books and study the code of other programmers, for example. Maybe work with a new language, architectures and paradigms. You need break the routine.

If you know Object-oriented programming, you learn functional programming.
If you know Model-View-Controller, you learn Model-View-ViewModel.
If you don’t know anything about architectures, you learn Clean Architecture, Hexagonal Architecture, etc.
If you know Python, you learn Ruby or Go.
If you know Clojure or Lisp… you don’t need to learn anything else. You are already a good programmer. Just kidding. You can learn Elixir or Scala.

Be a good programmer my friend.

PewDiePie | I installed linux
All I can say is.. what? I’m not even sure why this popped up in my youtube frontpage. I don’t generally watch PewDiePie, but in all honesty, it’s a pretty glowing review of Linux, Arch, Hyprland and more. He points out some warts and things here and there around compatibility, but all in all, “PewDiePie takes aim at Microsoft” was not on my 2025 Bingo card…
