I share I did write up an algorithm for it at some point I think it is lost in a git comment someplace. I’ll put together a pseudo/go code this week.

Super simple:

Making a reply:

1. If yarn has one use that. (Maybe do collision check?)
   
2. Make hash of twt raw no truncation.
   
3. Check local cache for shortest without collision
   
   • in SQL: select len(subject) where head_full_hash like subject || '%'
     

Threading:

1. Get full hash of head twt
   
2. Search for twts
   
   • in SQL: head_full_hash like subject || '%' and created_on > head_timestamp
     

The assumption being replies will be for the most recent head. If replying to an older one it will use a longer hash.

@lyse@lyse.isobeef.org what are you building now? The things you are mentioning I couldn’t even start wrapping my head around them! 😅 They sure sound expensive, tough.

@prologic@twtxt.net Regarding the new way of generating twt-hashes, to me it makes more sense to use tabs as separator instead of spaces, since the you can just copy/past a line directly from a twtxt-file that already go a tab between timestamp and message. But tabs might be hard to “type” when you are in a terminal, since it will activate autocomplete…🤔

Another thing, it seems that you sugget we only use the domain in the hash-creation and not the full path to the twtxt.txt

Been a crazy day, walked the dog 5km, came home, took over a meter of snow off veranda, helped 2 cars that was stuck on our street, helped neighbour showeling the snow to get his car in, then dug out our car (just in case we need it), and then had to walk to the store (2km) and back because you cant get car out from our street tonight. We had been having a cold go around with the kiddos for about a week when the wife started getting sicker than normal. Did a test and she was positive. We tested the rest of the fam and got nothing. Till about 2 days later and myself and the others were positive. It largely hasn’t been too bad a little feaver and stuffy noses.

But whatever it was that hit a few days ago was horrible. Like whatever switch in my head that goes to sleep mode was shut off. I would lay down and even though I felt sleepy, I couldn’t actually go to sleep. The anxiety hit soon after and I was just awake with no relief. And it persisted that way for three nights. I got some meds from the clinic that seemed to finally get me to sleep.

Now the morning after I realized for all that time a part of me was missing. I would close my eyes and it would just go dark. No imagination, no pictures, nothing. Normally I can visualize things as I read or think about stuff.. But for the last few days it was just nothing. The waking up to it was quite shocking.

Though its just the first night.. I guess I’ll have to see if it persists. 🤞

I have not been feeling good the past two days, caught a cold. So yesterday I was very lazy, luckily the kids where busy with their things, and Marlyn took Nanook to the dogpark to let him blow off some steam. Today I feel much better, so I headed out early for a 5km walk in the forest with the dog before everyone got up this morning. When I came home my daughter went to her friends house, so she will probably be gone for the rest of the day, and my son is playing games with his friends. Its still raining a lot here, but I managed to do to the walk in between the rain. Now Im working some more on the laptop I installed OpenBSD on this weekend. Getting more stuff set up on it.
