ok so i have found a genuine twt hash collision. what do i do.
internally, bbycll relies on a post lookup table with post hashes as keys, this is really fast but i knew i’d inevitably run into this issue (just not so soon) so now i have to either:
1) pick the newer post over the other
2) break from specification and not lowercase hashes
3) secretly associate canonical urls or additional entropy with post hashes in the backend without a sizeable performance impact somehow

I don’t understand the concept of a retwt. Just quote the (relevant) parts from whereever and comment on that. Or post a link instead of a quote. Sounds simple enough. :-) That’s also has the benefit that it works with every source, no matter what. Since it’s called retwt, I’d imagine this to only work (well) with whatever messages the system itself offers. But I could be wrong. What would be the benefit of having a dedicated message type or structure for “hey, look at that” messages in your opinion?

Sabemos que (no hemisfério norte) a noite mais longa do ano é em Dezembro, mas em Lamego, cidade das Noites Longas, é de 7 para 8 de Setembro que acontece a “Grande Noite da Romaria de Portugal” (os Lamecenses chamam-lhe “a noitada”). Arruadas por rusgas populares que alegremente percorrem a cidade cantando temas populares e cantigas ao desafio, pelo rufar típico dos bombos e alegres toques de concertinas, preenchem a noite até ao amanhecer - é a noite em que a cidade não dorme.
Já não tenho idade para essas coisas (mental, que física sou ultrapassado na boa por muitos foliões!), e amanhã é dia de trabalho, pelo que este ano me fiquei pela batalha das flores que aconteceu durante a tarde e para a qual - imaginem! - não se encontravam fotos com licenças livres, algo que aproveito para colmatar 😇

Este pôs-me ligo a resmungar com o título - e não melhorou.
O título é: “Equipa de peritos” está a analisar “possíveis impactos legais” do Amália, incluindo nos direitos de autor
Pôs-me a resmungar porque o projecto até já era para ter sido lançado, agora tem data de lançamentk para setembro (sim, este mês) e afinal… ainda nem fizeram aquele que devia ser o primeiro passo? Então e se agora afinal os dados não podem ser usados? Ou uma parte deles - vão tirá-los da base de dados iniciais e retreinar os modelos?
A questão é tão óbvia que até os jornalistas se lembraram de a fazer. E aí é que comecei mesmo a resmungar. O responsável pelo projecto podia ter dito “a legislação não impossibilita o início dos trabalhos.” Porque claro que não impossibilita. Mas o problema é que iniciar os trabalhos com todos os dados sem saber quais é que vão ser excluídos pode até ser contraproducente. E se afinal nenhum pode? Lá se foram os 5.5M€ que a brincadeira custou?
Mas a resposta foi pior, foi “Sendo um projeto público, desenvolvido em ambiente de investigação e seguindo um modelo de código aberto, a legislação não impossibilita o início dos trabalhos.”

You know, I think I do actually like it here better than my other social media. It’s slower and quieter, but it feels more organic and nobody’s trying to sell me anything, promote their podcast, or change the way I think. It’s just… nice!

You know, often, when I say I miss older ways of computing or
connecting online, people tell me "there's nothing stopping you
from doing that now!" and they are technicay correct in most cases
(though I can't, for example, chat with friends on MSN ever
again...) However, let me explain that while this type of thing can
*sort of* fill that hole in my heart, it isn't *the same.*
Say, for example, I wanted to connect with others over a BBS. This
wouldn't offer the same types of connections it used to. While
there are BBSes around with active users, they're no longer there
to discuss movies, Star Trek, D&D, games, etc. They're there to
discuss *BBSes.* The same can be said for Gopher, old-school forums
and all sorts of revival projects (such as Escargot, Spacehey,
etc.) Retrocomputing enthusiasts, while they have a variety of
interests, are often in these spaces to discuss the medium itself
and not other topics. This exists at a stark contrast from how
things were in the past, where a non-tech-inclined person may learn
the tech to connect with likeminded others (as I did as a
Zelda-obsessed kid.)
The same can be said of old media. People will say "well, nobody is
stopping you from watching old shows/movies now!" Again, they are
technically correct. I can go home right now and watch *Star Trek:
The Next Generation* to my heart's content. It will never again,
however, be current, or new. When something is new, it serves as a
shared cultural experience. Remember how "Game of Thrones* felt in
the mid-to-late 2010s? Yeah, that.
It's sad. I sustain myself on a mixed diet of old things, new
things, and new things intended for old millenials like me who like
old things. It can be bittersweet.

@kat@yarn.girlonthemoon.xyz Ahh what do you mean by images don’t embed? They definitely should! By default however all domains are blocked, so you might want to either allow some domains or just put in a .* entry to allow all/any domsins. Screenshot attached

Since Fastly acquired and recently shut down glitch.com, some of my ancient webapps are no longer available, nor do I have any plans to make them available again - all had either zero, or very few monthly visits, used outdated libraries and would be a waste of money, to continue hosting and updating elsewhere.
All art archives remain unaffected and all projects shut down before 2025, were already permanently deleted, but if there’s someone out there, still relying on the recently discontinued projects, somehow - you can reach out and request their source code.
These requests will only be honoured, until the end of this year, when we plan to permanently delete, all of this data (both webapps and files only hosted on Amazons CDN).
