All of the positive reviews of Alita are like “it follows the manga even when you don’t expect it to, which makes it not feel like a hollywood movie, & does the best job it possibly could fitting 4.5 volumes of manga into a 2 hour movie”

Bad idea of the day: Do a free machine-generated text class at a library (using tracery or something), self-publish the course materials as a book (with proceeds going to the library as donations), & get a couple copies for the stacks.

MfoM is like Groundhog Day meets The X Files, while Happy Death Day is more like Groundhog Day meets Scream. (Actually, less like Scream than Happy Birthday to Me, but nobody’s seen that one.)

I’d like to play a horror game that’s lit like Suspiria is during its most extreme moments: backgrounds & characters in bright monochrome washes, a cypher of harsh shadows, as though lit by single-point neon.

Responses to my essay ‘Tech’s Masturbatory Historiography’ make me think that most people reading it don’t know what ‘historiography’ means. (It’s exactly what it sounds like…)

In the sunken and forgotten city, Senpai lies not dead but dreaming, as blissfully unaware of mankind’s rise above as that of other prior races. We have just begun to meddle in forces that may cause Senpai to notice us for the first time, and rise.

Why not apply the principles of the jury system to democracy?
Not only do we know that Democracy as we know it doesn’t work, in 1787 the man who gave us democracy here in the USA told us that it would not work, hence the second amendment. They said this is the best we have deal with it. Don’t let it get too big! What did […] ⌘ Read more

One of the ideas I was playing with in MfoM was the distinction between player & player character with a ‘possession’ metaphor, & how that relates to the time loop. I didn’t go so far with it. Maybe in Book of the Damned I’ll have the player be a possessing-spirit.
