I think Iām just about ready to go live with my new blog (migrated from MicroPub). I just finished migrating all of the content over, fixing up metadata, cleaning up, migrating media, optimizing media.
The new blog for prologic.blog soon to be powered by zs using the zs-blog-template is coming along very nicely š It was actually pretty easy to do the migration/conversation in the end. The results are not to shabby either.
Before:
- ~50MB repo
- ~267 files
After:
- ~20MB repo
- ~88 files
Pretty happy with my zs-blog-template starter kit for creating and maintaining your own blog using zs š Demo of what the starter kit looks like here ā Basic features include:
- Clean layout & typography
- Chroma code highlighting (aligned to your site palette)
- Accessible copy-code button
- āOn this pageā collapsible TOC
- RSS, sitemap, robots
- Archives, tags, tag cloud
- Draft support (hidden from lists/feeds)
- Open Graph (OG) & Twitter card meta (default image + per-post overrides)
- Ready-to-use 404 page
As well as custom routes (redirects, rewrites, etc) to support canonical URLs or redirecting old URLs as well as new zs
external command capability itself that now lets you do things like:
$ zs newpost
to help kick-start the creation of a new post with all the right āstuffā⢠ready to go and then pop open your $EEDITOR

@dce@hashnix.club You should try los86! 8-)
Well, what are you trying to do on this ThinkPad? That might affect the OS choices.
I really had to laugh when I read your initial comparison. I love it! :-D
Now thatās interesting. Some of these bots start crawling at URLs like this:
That is obviously completely wrong. But I can explain it. Some years ago, I screwed up my nginx rewrite rules, and thatās how these broken URLs came to be.
It all redirects to /git
now, which is why that endpoint sees so much traffic lately.
But what does that mean? Why do they start there? I can only speculate that this company bought an old database of web links and they use that to start crawling. And it was probably a cheap one, because these redirects have been fixed for quite a long time now.
The bots have begun to access my website way more often. Iām getting about 120k hits on https://www.uninformativ.de/git/ now in a couple of hours.
They donāt cache anything, probably on purpose.
It comes in waves. I get about 100 hits (all at once) on that /git
endpoint, all from different IPs. Then it takes a moment until I get another wave of about 500-1000 requests (all at once) where they do HEAD
requests on some of the paths below /git
. I assume they did a GET
earlier and are now checking if something has changed.
@dce@hashnix.club Ah, oh, well then. š„“
My client supports that, if you set multiple url =
fields in your feedās metadata (the top-most one must be the āmainā URL, that one is used for hashing).
But yeah, multi-protocol feeds can be problematic and some have considered it a mistake to support them. š¤

st tries not to redraw immediately after new data arrives:

The exact timings are configurable.
This is the PR that changed the timing in VTE recently (2023):
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/vte/-/issues/2678
There is a long discussion. Itās not a trivial problem, especially not in the context of GTK and multiple competing terminal widgets. st dodges all these issues (for various reasons).
Something happened with the frame rate of terminal emulators lately. It looks like thereās a trend to run at a high framerate now? Iām not sure exactly. This can be seen in VTE-based terminals like my xiate or XTerm on Wayland. foot and st, on the other hand, are fine.
My shell prompt and cursor look like this:
$ ā
When I keep Enter pressed, I expect to see several lines like so:
$
$
$
$
$
$
$ ā
With the affected terminal emulators, the lines actually show up in the following sequence. First, we have the original line:
$ ā
Pressing Enter yields this as the next frame:
$
ā
And then eventually this:
$
$ ā
In other words, you can see the cursor jumping around very quickly, all the time.
Another example: Vim actually shows which key you just pressed in the bottom right corner. Keeping j
pressed to scroll through a file means I get to see a j
flashing rapidly now.
(I have no idea yet, why exactly XTerm in X11 is fine but flickering in Wayland.)

Hi, So i made a little MVP registry crawler tool for twtxt. It now has a basic UI to play with. It has a somewhat full history back to about 2018-ish. Plus some interesting bits that were timestamped to earlier.
Find it here: https://watcher.sour.is
Code base is found here: https://git.sour.is/sour-is/xt
Iām playing with ratterplatter again: Itās a toy that watches disk I/O and emulates the noise of a real hard disk. (Linux only.) It uses sound samples from one of my older disks.
I tried a different approach at estimating the disk activity and I think I finally got it right (after almost 10 years ⦠š¤¦).
Demo, booting a Windows 2000 VM: https://movq.de/v/1400544cc6/2kboot-ratterplatter-2.mp4
(For this purpose alone, I put a couple of mini speakers into my PC case, so that the noise comes from the right place: https://movq.de/v/a3b2dc0932/speakers.jpg)
The results arenāt too bad, but this thing canāt be super accurate due to the huge I/O caches that we have these days. For the video, I dropped the caches before booting Windows, otherwise you would have heard almost nothing.
FWIW, if you donāt know it yet, this is the equivalent for proper keyboard sound: https://github.com/zevv/bucklespring
@movq@www.uninformativ.de letās host yarnd! Or maybe wait until @prologic@twtxt.net return activitypub support which deleted in this commit
@movq@www.uninformativ.de Where can I join your club? Although, most software I use is decentish in that regard.
I just noted today that JetBrains improv^Wcompletely fucked up their new commit dialog. Thereās no diff anymore where I would also be able to select which changes to stage. I guess from now on Iām going to exclusively commit from only the shell. No bloody git integration anymore. >:-( This is so useless now, unbelievable.
@eapl.me@eapl.me Cool!
Proposal 3 (https://git.mills.io/yarnsocial/twtxt.dev/issues/18#issuecomment-19215) has the āadvantageā, that you do not have to āmentionā the original author if the thread slightly diverges. It seems to be a thing here that conversations are typically very flat instead of trees. Hence, and despite being a tree hugger, I voted for 3 being my favorite one, then 2, 1 and finally 4.
All proposals still need more work to clarify the details and edge cases in my opinion before they can be implemented.

@aelaraji@aelaraji.com not sure but i will check when i can! git status is a good idea yeah
@kat@yarn.girlonthemoon.xyz @prologic@twtxt.net When I make dev
on current master, I get a proper version. Same with make server
. Assuming you cloned the repo, do you have any (uncommited) changes? What does git status
tell you?
it seems to be confused with the subject right next to it.. it works better at the end of the twt string.
Yarn wonāt display anything. but the parser does add it to the AST in a way that you can parse it out using twt.Attrs().Get("lang")

Hi everyone,
Iāve drafted a Request for Comments (RFC) to improve how threads work in twtxt:
https://git.mills.io/yarnsocial/twtxt.dev/issues/18
Iād love your feedback! Please share your thoughts on anything that could be better explained, check if the proposed dates work for everyone, and I invite you to join the discussionā¦

@prologic@twtxt.net sure thing!
What about discussing it in https://git.mills.io/yarnsocial/twtxt.dev ?
The only con I see is that everyone would need to create an account there to participate.
@andros@twtxt.andros.dev Iāve commented on the ticket: https://git.mills.io/yarnsocial/twtxt.dev/issues/14#issuecomment-19142
In all reality, though, I donāt see that our community will come to an agreement. Some folks just donāt want to give up on the content-based addressing scheme.
@lyse@lyse.isobeef.org What do you think about this? https://git.mills.io/yarnsocial/twtxt.dev/issues/14
@andros@twtxt.andros.dev I donāt see a burst of new twtxt clients popping up. Yeah, the most recent ones are TwtxtReader and twtxt-el. Did I miss one? I agree with @david@collantes.us, looks normal to me. :-)
Iām also working on my rewrite at the moment, but that started⦠*looking at the git history*⦠oh wow! O_o Over two years ago! I just implemented jumping to the next/previous unread message.
I just learned about a few to me unknown git settings: https://blog.gitbutler.com/how-git-core-devs-configure-git/ Letās see how quickly I canāt live without them anymore. ;-)
Edit #issuecomment-18968
@eapl.me@eapl.me @andros@twtxt.andros.dev hereās another variant as per eaplās suggestion (#issuecomment-18968)[https://git.mills.io/yarnsocial/twtxt.dev/issues/9#issuecomment-18968]
What would you like the new twtxt logo to be?

I\ām learning #Django at paid offline course. My diplom project: https://git.0ut0f.space/doesnm/cms (frontend not included in repo but exists on my usb drive because itās too worse)
