I am a bit split on this, don’t think there’s any real use for AI in things like art, at absolute most getting a reference to compare with multiple non-AI ones, or possibly some animation in between frames, if it ever gets better at making those. Would not rely on it for any of my personal projects, more than maybe a quick search that would have previously been done on Stack Overflow, but if I work somewhere and they demand it be used similarly to how it is described on this site, considering the current IT job market, I’d probably take the slop bullet, over being unemployed.

Obviously even in that case, I’d only do this to generate code I can understand, improve and review. I’m definitely not advacating people just put their feet up on the table and let some random combination of “AI agents”, vibecode their entire codebase.

@arne@uplegger.eu hahahahaha! They are swimming pool covers, also called lanais. They are to keep leaves, and any other debris, and any wild animals, out of the swimming pool. A swimming pool enclosure, pretty much.

How truly wonderful! I went out tonight and the first thing I noticed was the temperature drop. It felt actually quite pleasing. What a welcome surprise, I didn’t expect that at all. It was warmer in the forst than between the fields. The tiniest breeze helped to cool off the surroundings I think. Right now, the temperature shows 23°C. It’s supposed to reach 18°C at 5 in the morning before it rapidly shoots through the sky again.

When I left the house I even saw the very end of a nice sunset. A bat was around, too. The several thousand fireflies delivered a fantastic show. It’s such a pity that I cannot show this to you. :-(

There were many frogs or toads around. Luckily, the light tan gravel road made for a good constrast to the darker hopping amphibians. So, I spotted them just in time. No animals were harmed.

The moon was out and lit up the scenery. I was perfectly chasing my own shadow for several hundred meters on a forest road. I had the moon right in my back. That moon light shadow felt magical. <3

It must have set a new record on picking up spider webs along the way. The threads around arms and legs always feel quite yucky. People were blasting music somewhere in town. You could here that noise in the entire forest. I found that rather annoying. All street lamps are operational again, so I got already blinded right at the entrance to the town. But other than that, this was a very nice evening stroll. Totally recommended. Already looking forward to tomorrow. :-)

Thanks to a blog post by ~solderpunk and the presence of ImageMagick on my pubnix, all of my weirdcore art (apart from the animated works) is now under 32K in size! Honestly, I’d say the lower JPEG quality actually adds to the vibe of the images: something from the early web, taken permanently out of context and long forgotten.

No AI being used is really great. However, the same clips shown over and over again and some images being mirrored was quite annoying to me. Also, there were some quite terrible computer animations and sometimes the narration and picture didn’t match at all. Talking about the medieval period and then showing an image from the 18th hundred or so. What the heck?

These production issues made me sceptical pretty much early on. So I quickly crosschecked Wikipedia. But it seems spot on from what I’ve read. Very good. Also, the narrator’s voice was really nice to listen to.

Eels are fascinating creatures. :-)

I have this very simple #Python script that uses #imageio to convert all PNG files on a folder into a #GIFAnimation, and this is a #FreeSimpleGUI version of it (I usually run a command line version).

As I usually run #gifsicle on the command line after creating a GIF, I decided to update it to add #pygifsicle to do it for me and save a step.

Hahaha, I’m sure there were well over one thousand fireflies today! Basically at all times I could watch at least 15 of them around me. At better spots where one could see a few meters into the forest, there were easily 30 individuals, probably more. One even landed on my small finger. I didn’t feel anything at all, but my finger glowed. :-) Awwww! After a 20 meters ride it took off.

But it looks like I have to go already at 21:30 at sunset the next days. Today, I left the house at 22:00 and all the above happend in the first half. The second half of the walk was rather boring, maybe just around 70 glowworms in total. The extremely busy route yesterday was virtually dead this time I came around. They all have already gone to sleep, or something like that.

I also encountered two toads. I nearly stepped on the first one, but it luckily jumped to the side in time. No animals harmed.

That’s pretty darn neat, the little indie movie (‘Flow’) made in Blender beat out some Disney/Pixar heavyweights. I actually watched it a month or so ago, nice little movie. It’s not the highest detailed animation or anything, but it has a style that it makes work.
