My mate and I went on a hike earlier. Yesterday, we had lovely 12°C. But today, it was down to at most 4°C. Oh well. At least the sun was out and and there was just a tiny bit of wind. We knew upfont that scarf, beanie and gloves were mandatory. Especially at the more windy sections like up top the hills. The view was absolutely terrible, but we made the best of it.
With the sun shining on us during our lunch break at a forest edge bench, we still enjoyed the lookout in 01. I brought some old carpet scraps to sit on and was happily surprised that they isolated even better than I had hoped for. Some hot tea helped us staying warm.
After five hours we returned just after sunset. I’m quite tired now, completely out of shape.
It was though year. I finished my PhD, yay! Now, I’m on vacation from my main job, as educator at Sesc, and yesterday I wound down some last freelance work obligations. I really need a break.
I want to rest, make some “prints” of my drawings for friends, go to my local museums and have coffee/tea with friends, and that’s it!
Today we celebrate 18 years of our local #Python users group, #GruPySP, and I’m going to meet friends from #GaroaHackerClube, that’s a great start :)

Whooooaaaah, I just accidentally found out that VLC can play 360° videos and I am able to pan around! Crazy shit. I actually scrolled in order to adjust the volume like it usually works, but it zoomed in and out instead. Then I saw the title hinting at the 360° stuff. Even though this is not my cup of tea, it’s nice that VLC supports it.
@prologic@twtxt.net Yeah, it’s difficult, you often don’t get what you’d expect. They also make heavy use of 3rd party libraries. IIUC, for random numbers, they refer to this library. I’ve read many times that the Rust stdlib is intentionally minimalistic (to make it easier to maintain and port and all that).
I’m struggling with this, using 3rd party libs for so many things isn’t really my cup of tea. I’ll probably make my own tiny little “standard library”. It’s silly, but I don’t see any other options. 🤷

That said, I wouldn’t buy orange-blossom water just to dump into my tea. It’s much more useful as a cheesecake-batter addition, but in order to draw it down in a timely fashion I’d have to bake two cheesecakes a week.
Discovery of the day: if you have some extra orange-blossom water lying around that you want to use up before it goes bad, you could do worse than to splash some in your cup of black tea.
Somebody apparently once went up the the great philosopher Wittgenstein and said “What a lot of morons people back in the Middle Ages must have been to have looked every morning at what’s going on behind me now, the dawn, and to have thought that what they were seeing was the sun going around the Earth, when as every schoolkid knows the Earth goes around the sun and it doesn’t take too many brains to understand that.” To which Wittgenstein replied, “Yeah, but I wonder what it would have looked like if the Sun had been going around the Earth.” Point being, of course, is that it would have looked exactly the same. swans on tea » You See What Your Knowledge Tells You You’re Seeing
