Hello RSS goblins.

It’s unseasonably warm here, and well, I suppose everywhere. That’s…frightening, but before I let that weigh to heavily on this post I must move on.

It’s been a gorgeous weekend. We took the kids to the beach Friday after dinner, expecting to play on the sand and scramble up the rocks, but they actually each went swimming. They had a blast. The car is filled with sand, and I hope that last little hurrah of summer hangs around for a bit.

Our Husky Nanook has been living outside 24/7 since summer (except for 2-3 nights). Yesterday I finished his new insulated house, made it with my stepdad. So now Nanook is ready to spend the whole year outside.

** A week notes to round out the summer **
I haven’t posted anything remotely resembling week notes since the middle of June! It was raining cats and dogs for a few minutes, I almost couldn’t see the houses down in the valley anymore. Pretty sick. :-)

@bender@twtxt.net Haha, yeah, we’re also better off rolling dice sometimes. I usually don’t mind liquid sunshine either. But I have to be prepared for it. As a matter of prudence, I brought my rain jacket along. In the end, I was wet from the inside as well, though. The breathability of this plastic bag isn’t as good as they always claim it to be. Especially in summer.

Since 2020, I’ve been putting together one playlist every year, in which each track represents one month of that year. However, I also have assigned each season two specific songs, which does not change year-to-year: Spring: “A Little Bit Of Love” by Weezer and “Gretel” by Alex G; Summer: “Dumb” by Roe Kapara and “Endless Bummer” by Weezer; Autumn: “1979” by The Smashing Pumpkins and “The Dead Come Talking” by Roe Kapara; Winter: “Red Water (Christmas Mourning)” by Type O Negative and “Christmas Time (Don’t Let The Bells End)” by The Darkness

Why is it that I hate packing so badly? I gotta have to brace myself up to start that now.

The outlook is poor, rain all the way until maybe the last day of summer camp. Definitely bringing my gummies, they are well needed, the weather report announces several days with up to 14 liters per square meter.

After drawing the bigger canine stickers, I also want to change my profile picture for summer, to something more fluffy, shaded and a bit smug looking.

We went on a 14 kilometers long hike in the heat, only a few spots were in the shade, most of our trip was in the open fields with the sun beating down on us. We reapplied the sun blocker after about two hours or so. All in all it took us about three and a half hours before we reached our destination Besigheim.

Last time I was there it was rainy, now we had the exact opposite. After some yummy Chinese lunch we visited the old town. There’s some gorgeous timer framing to see. When kept in decent shape, it just looks so dang cool.

Since it was too hot, we rode back by train. Despite the heat and some sections near the roaring Autobahn, this was a nice hike. Would do it again. Only in colder weather, though. I certainly don’t wanna trade my comperatively larger (still nothing to other more rural areas), covering forests with the wide open fields and vineyards in summer. That’s for sure.

The blurb likens it to Narnia, and, while a bold claim, I think that was a correct assertion, but more about the intended audience than the book’s subject matter. @prologic@twtxt.net During summer - yes, since our kids have 2 months. First month of their vacation I still work, then I join them on their last month. We do have 5 weeks, so I save the last week for around Christmas. :)

4 week vacation time is done tomorrow, then it’s back to work. A bit excited to see what happens there for the rest of the year, a bit stressfull too, but It’ll be nice to get back to work. This summer vacation has been super nice, and also felt like it lasted long. Been a super time with my family, we got to visit a lot of cool places, and went on a lot of trips etc. Been really nice. And we’ve already planned what to do next year - so I already look forward to that :)

Bought a motorcycle this summer, I did not want two cars, and Marlyn would like to have the car more when I’m at work. So I bought a new cheap motorcycle, KTM Adventure 390.
It’s been 10 years since I last had a motorcycle (back then I had a KTM 990cc).
Here I am with my daughter on the new bike :)
My kids love to go for rides, so does Marlyn as well, so it’s a lot of fun for all of us.

Last year I set out to rekindle my reading habit. That went well. This year’s reading has been enjoyable, but I’m not cozy with the ratio of non-fiction to fiction I’ve read this year…non-fiction (especially of the computing persuasion) far out balances the fiction I’ve read. I think this is mostly because I’ve been mired amidst a fiction book that I’ve found to be a slog…but enjoyable, too. I’d have abandoned it and moved on, elsewise. Onward!
