↳ In-reply-to » Nobody want to be a shitty programmer. The question is: Do you do anything not to not be one? Reading blogs or social media and watching YouTube videos is fun. After them, your code may be a little better, of course. But you need a lot. You need to study! Read good books and study the code of other programmers, for example. Maybe work with a new language, architectures and paradigms. You need break the routine.

I haven’t really done that lately. 🤔 Maybe have another go at Rust (given its increasing importance in the Linux kernel)? Or Elixir, yes, I only had some very, very brief contact with it. 🤔

I just came across an old forum posting of mine about Prolog. That brought up some memories. Prolog is pretty alien, but I do miss stuff like that because it’s so different.

I’m enjoying Wesley Chu’s Tao and Io series. Spies, action, ancient aliens. Some funny parts, some interesting world-building parts, some action-filled parts. I picked up The Fall of Io at random from a library a few weeks ago, and it turned out to be the last in a series of six (technically two series), so after finishing that I read the first and am partway through the second. Usually I try to read series in order, but this way is interesting. One thing I liked about The Fall of Io was that it it followed many points of view with somewhat conflicting interests, some more evil than others, and I felt sympathy for most of them. (I was kind of hoping it would be about Jupiter’s moon Io, but it wasn’t, but I’m satisfied with what I ended up with.) (2/4)

@prologic@twtxt.net I’m thinking more in general - about the balloons and stuff that’s been in the news.
It’s just some of the comments they have made publicly, calling it a balloon in one setting, then ‘object’ in another..
I think all of those where just that - balloons, but either way some of those UAP’s are strange.
And I always wonder if someone has a craft from some other world or not.

It would not be weird in any way if some aliens evolved way beyond us, and it would not be weird if someone visited us here.
We would do the same if we found a planet with life.

All in all it’s just fascinating to think about these things.
