Since Fastly acquired and recently shut down glitch.com, some of my ancient webapps are no longer available, nor do I have any plans to make them available again - all had either zero, or very few monthly visits, used outdated libraries and would be a waste of money, to continue hosting and updating elsewhere.
All art archives remain unaffected and all projects shut down before 2025, were already permanently deleted, but if thereās someone out there, still relying on the recently discontinued projects, somehow - you can reach out and request their source code.
These requests will only be honoured, until the end of this year, when we plan to permanently delete, all of this data (both webapps and files only hosted on Amazons CDN).

I like the looks of your window manager. Thatās using Wayland, right? The only thing on this screenshot to critique is all that wasted space of the windows not making use of the full screen!!!1 At least the file browser. 8-)
This drives me nuts when my workmates share their screens. I really donāt get it how people can work like that. You canāt even read the whole line in the IDE or log viewer with all the expanded side bars. Sorry for going off on a tangent here. :-) Back to your WM: It has the right mix of being subtle and still similar to motif. Probably close to the older Windowses. My memory doesnāt serve me well, but I think they actually got it fairly good in my opinion. Your purple active window title looks killer. It just fits so well. This brown one (https://www.uninformativ.de/blog/postings/2025-07-22/0/leafpads.png) gives me also classic vibes. Awww. We ran some similar brownish color scheme (donāt recall its name) on Win95 or Win98 for some time on the family computer. I remember other people visting us not liking these colors. :-D
@movq@www.uninformativ.de I fully agree with you on https://www.uninformativ.de/blog/postings/2025-07-22/0/POSTING-en.html!
Although, in the first screenshot, the window title background is much darker in the new version than the old one!1!1 :-P Kidding aside, the contrast in the old one is still better.
Also, note the missing underlines for the Alt hotkeys now. I just think that the underline in the old one is too thick.

Heck yeah, Iāve been a firefly taxi again! \o/ One landed on my hiking boot and rode along a few meters. It then took off on its own without me having to help it. I saw easily a thousand glowing individuals tonight, bloody cool. :-)
Ted Unangstās snarky (and entertaining) remarks this month:
OH, FUCK ME DEAD! On the way home from todayās walk I saw easily 800 fireflies! Yes, over eight hundred! That was absolutely amazing. First time this year and already this many. Crazy! They were just fricking everywhere in the entire forest. I counted to one hundred and then stopped. The darker it got, the more fireflies came out and glowed around. :-) There were spots where in under ten seconds I counted 20 glowworms. Super sick. Soooo beautiful. <3
Before I left I tried to call a mate to join me, who apparently wasnāt home yet, though, didnāt pick up. But in the very end I surprisingly met her in the forest and we were super happy to encounter all the fireflies. She also said that today was her first time this year to spot them. Iāll definitely check them out in the next days, too.
Apart from all the glowworms, I also came across some goats, two deer (one of which only the ears showing out of the grass), according to the sounds I sadly must have scared up four more, bucketloads of tadpoles, four big and very active anthills next to each other and three bats to finish the stroll off. I call that extremely successful.

I did a ālectureā/āworkshopā about this at work today. 16-bit DOS, real mode. š¾ Pretty cool and the audience (devs and sysadmins) seemed quite interested. š„³
- People used the Intel docs to figure out the instruction encodings.
- Then they wrote a little DOS program that exits with a return code and they used uhex in DOSBox to do that. Yes, we wrote a COM file manually, no Assembler involved. (Many of them had never used DOS before.)
- DEBUG from FreeDOS was used to single-step through the program, showing what it does.
- This gets tedious rather quickly, so we switched to SVED from SvarDOS for writing the rest of the program in Assembly language. nasm worked great for us.
- At the end, we switched to BIOS calls instead of DOS syscalls to demonstrate that the same binary COM file works on another OS. Also a good opportunity to talk about bootloaders a little bit.
- (I think they even understood the basics of segmentation in the end.)
The 8086 / 16-bit real-mode DOS is a great platform to explain a lot of the fundamentals without having to deal with OS semantics or executable file formats.
Now that was a lot of fun. š„³ Itās very rare that we do something like this, sadly. I love doing this kind of low-level stuff.
We really are bouncing back and forth between flat UIs and beveled UIs. I mean, this is what old X11 programs looked like:
https://www.uninformativ.de/desktop/2025%2D06%2D21%2D%2Dkatriawm%2Dold%2Dxorg%2Dapps.png

Click, now 85, and his friends were sitting at the long bar of the New York Athletic club reading magazine articles about boxing, fencing, judo and wrestling. āOne of my mates said, āDude, we donāt do any of those things.āā They had to face it. They were dull. They decided to embrace their dullness.
As a joke, they started The Dull Menās Club, which involved some very silly, dull activities. They chartered a tour bus but didnāt go anywhere. āWe toured the bus. We walked around the outside of the bus a few times. And the driver explained the tyre pressures and turned on the windscreen wipers.ā

Once again, I went on a hike onto my backyard mountain after calling it quits very late. This time I brought my cam along. The view was extremely hazy, but the setting sunlight resulted in cool colors. The freshly cut grass smelled wonderful.
I saw a flock of pidgeons circling around and some sort of rat or mouse quickly running over the road in front of me from one field into the next one with a giant nut in its mouth. Or so I at least believe, couldnāt really tell, it happened so fast.
A couple enjoyed the setting sun on a bench and stripped their shoes on this warm evening. Somebody forget their bottle of water on the summit, but it looked rather cool in the evening light:
Not sure what theyāre doing, but they now set up scaffolding at the ruin. I heavily doubt it, but it would be cool if they rebuilt the castle. :-)
On the way back I met up with a mate who couldnāt come along right from the beginning. We saw two deer on the meadow, but it was already too dark for my camera, the photos were totally rubbish. The sunset turned really pretty and colorful just in time when I reached home. https://lyse.isobeef.org/waldspaziergang-2025-06-10/

We went on a 14Ā kilometers long hike in the heat, only a few spots were in the shade, most of our trip was in the open fields with the sun beating down on us. We reapplied the sun blocker after about two hours or so. All in all it took us about three and a half hours before we reached our destination Besigheim.
Last time I was there it was rainy, now we had the exact opposite. After some yummy Chinese lunch we visited the old town. Thereās some gorgeous timer framing to see. When kept in decent shape, it just looks so dang cool.
Since it was too hot, we rode back by train. Despite the heat and some sections near the roaring Autobahn, this was a nice hike. Would do it again. Only in colder weather, though. I certainly donāt wanna trade my comperatively larger (still nothing to other more rural areas), covering forests with the wide open fields and vineyards in summer. Thatās for sure.

I visited a good mate after a day in the office and went for a stroll in the evening. It still was really hot, phew, about 24°C. Must have been the aftermath of the fire in the morning! For sure! The firealarm went off during a meeting and we all had to leave the building. Anyway, I only managed to take one lizard photo, all the other ones we came across immediately vanished in the brush or cracks in the vineyard walls. The kestrels were way more cooperative:

If we must stick to hashes for threading, can we maybe make it mandatory to always include a reference to the original twt URL when writing replies?
Instead of
(<a href="https://txt.sour.is/search?q=%23123467">#123467</a>) hello foo bar
you would have
(<a href="https://txt.sour.is/search?q=%23123467">#123467</a> http://foo.com/tw.txt) hello foo bar
or maybe even:
(<a href="https://txt.sour.is/search?q=%23123467">#123467</a> 2025-04-30T12:30:31Z http://foo.com/tw.txt) hello foo bar
This would greatly help in reconstructing broken threads, since hashes are obviously unfortunately one-way tickets. The URL/timestamp would not be used for threading, just for discovery of feeds that you donāt already follow.
I donāt insist on including the timestamp, but having some idea which feed weāre talking about would help a lot.

@lyse@lyse.isobeef.org Very nice! š So lovely and green š ā Whatās with the sign in
? š§I went on a small hike, just 12-13km this time. The weather was great, blue sky, sunny 18°C, but with the wind it felt colder. Leaves and other green stuff is exploding like crazy. It looks super beautiful right now.
I came across an unfortunately dead salamander on the forest road, some fenced in deer, heaps of sheep, some unmagnetic cows (some were aligned very roughly north-south, but mainly with the axis of the best view I believe), a maybeetle and finally an awesome sunset. Not too shabby! The sheep were mehing all the time, that was really lovely to hear. And the crickets were already active, too. Didnāt expect them to hear yet. I tried to record the concert, but the wind messed it all up. Oh well.
It was fairly gray all day. Just before I went on a stroll, a rain shower paid us a visit. Then, the sun took over. Great timing. Itās crazy how rapidly the greenery grows. No comparison to only two weeks ago.

Todayās stroll was really nice. Just around 11km in total Iād reckon. We had a barbie at a mateās garden where everybody went on a hunt for an easter basket. Oh boy, what a preparation that must have been! Baking the bunnies, dying the eggs, mixing the bear leek butter and so on. Thatās dedication, let me tell you. :-)
It was the first time this year that we had half proper April weather and a thunderstorm in general. It started off with clear sky and lovely sunshine. Right after arvo lunch it started to rain, so we went into the hut. Then, the sun returned.
On the way back with the growling thunder in the distance coming closer and closer we escaped the rain just perfectly. A minute or two after we reached the car, wet stuff started coming down the sky. Not even half a minute after opening the front door, it poured like crazy. Lucky twice today. Thereās beautiful sunshine again by now. It smells absolutely great after the rain. I love it!
A mate and I had an amazing but also exhausting hike to the highest of the Three Emperor Mountains yesterday with perfect weather conditions. Sunny 18°C, blue sky with barly a cloud and a little welcoming breeze, just beautiful.
Mt. Stuifen is 757 meters above sea level, has a small shelter and a barbie area and is still the most boring one of the three. Itās also the one farthest away from me. Not sure why it has two summit crosses, but both arenāt at the summit. The third, makeshift one at the real summit was gone by now. Four years ago, somebody had cobbled one together and put it up.
We bought our tucker at a local bakery on our way. This was the first time I tried a Teufelsbrezel (lit. devilās pretzel), a lye pretzel with pepper. Havenāt come across that anywhere else. But I can certainly recommend that, itās yummy.
We were glad when we were finally back home after some 26 or 27km. I wonāt do much today and let my feet rest. Another friend called for a much, much shorter hike tomorrow.

We had some nice 22°C today. But after work, it got rather windy and cloudy, temps rapidly dropped so just 14°C. Still a nice stroll to our backyard mountain. https://lyse.isobeef.org/waldspaziergang-2025-04-16/

my main itch with the DMs extensions is that these messages are intended to be private, not public information. Thatās why other extensions make sense, but DMs are another kind of feature.
TwiXter, Mastodon, FB and some other services usually hide the DMs in another section, so they are not mixed with the public timeline.
I find the DM topic interesting, I even made an indie experiment for a centralized messaging system here https://github.com/eapl-gemugami/owl.
Although, as Iāve said a few times here, Iām not particularly interested in supporting it on microblogging, as I donāt use it that much. In the rare case Iāve used them, I donāt have to manage public and private keys, and finally none of my acquaintances use encrypted email.
Nothing personal against anyone, and although I like to debate and even fight, itās not the case here. This proposal is the only one allowing DMs on twtxt, and if the community wants it, Iāll support it, with my personal input, of course.
A good approach I could find with a good compromise between compatibility with current clients and keeping these messages private is āhidingā the DMs in comments. For example:

A mate and I met at the scout yard to prepare an upcoming workshop. Boy did we have an amazing sunset when we left. The photos donāt reflect it, it was a hell lot more beautiful in person: https://lyse.isobeef.org/plaetzle-2025-04-11/
