In-reply-to » Some days ago we went on a lovely family bush walk ! Here are some scenery I captured 👌 Sorry I don't have any tools or apps to display this in a nice gallery (yet) like @lyse@ ☺️

@lyse@lyse.isobeef.org @prologic@twtxt.net Wow those are incredible shots. It’s such a different quality of light from where I live in Ohio lol. Reminds me of going up to Canada, really just feeling like the light itself was different! Beautiful

Makes you think 🤔 about how wikipedia has managed it for so long. imo wikipedia is the unmitigated triumph of “web 2.0”. their no ads policy is impressive

I did sign up for the apple Private Relay beta for 1$ a month VPN when I realised I was on a TOTALLY UNSECURED public cafe wifi tho lol. I guess maybe that could answer your question about price point 😂

Even paying for netflix turns into “1 sub service per show” in my experience. Whereas popular network sites I use seem to be doing alright with a donations model 🤷‍♂️

I’ve seen this idea a lot over the last… decade and I don’t buy it. I’m not just a user, I also run a free ssb node for 10$ a month just because I want to. this is about the minimum thing you can do, I’m not being hammered or otherwise having to pay a lot.

However. In my experience, paying for a service… i dunno. IMO the idea that user payment can circumvent the need for ads is wrong. ultimately they still show you ads. and on top of that IMO a paying user is a “mark”. If they pay they can be relied upon to pay more. and case in point everything I’ve ever paid for has ended up fucking me. in both cases (LOL) selling out to microsoft and ending up with “well we’ve invented new payment tiers so cough up your phone number and more money etc”. just my experience 🤷‍♂️

delta chat is great and irc is great on mobile if you use thelounge as I do. It’s seamless and has pictures and emoji and history and all the stuff people complain about irc not having. That being said I also dont know anyone who uses delta chat. 😭 😝

In-reply-to » how do you geniuses handle all your passwords? People like pword managers but I have like 4 different OSes i use every day and on top of that centralised pword management makes me nervous, upset, and crabby. what if I have to log in from some other system ???

I’ve been using a combination of “one password for everything” (bad i know) and a sh script to make strong passwords for stuff that matters but I’ll probabaly switch to pass. The problem is we passed the point years ago where passwords that are secure (?) and meet the insane special character requirements are passwords I feel like typing out or even remembering. Kind of like I used to memorise my friends’ phone numbers as a kid but no more… that reminds me, I was recently able to log into my employer retirement account with just my birthdate and VOIP number 😂 💀
