In-reply-to » My mate and I hiked up the backyard mountain. We got 25°C and quite some wind, so it was actually not too terrible. The wind could have blown harder or the temps a little lower, but oh well.

Or it is something else? Awesome pics, Lyse! Some oldies I missed (the lady), and some pretty cool new ones. I can’t get enough of nature pics!

@movq@www.uninformativ.de It is horribly hot and humid here, and is not even 08:00. AC ran overnight for 3+ hours. It is going to be hellish, not going to lie.

Your birthday, or someone else’s? Either way, happy birthday! 🥳🎂 May many more years come, with good health… and less heat! ☺️

In-reply-to » I went to check on the fireflies this season. But I didn't see any. Instead lots of moths. At first, I thought it might have been still too light, but it was already dark enough for me to miss and destroy a snail shell. Bummer. Maybe it was too wet tonight. Although, it's probably just another or two weeks until my glowing friends will finally show up.

@lyse@lyse.isobeef.org the movie gives me a glimpse, not that bad. Thank you for capturing it, mate!

@lyse@lyse.isobeef.org having seeing, and played with fireflies as a child I envy you. We have none around here. Children have no idea what a firefly is. I mean, they do, but vague, and based on videos and telly.

@prologic@twtxt.net I do! I paginate usually 10 times on HN. Their algo is so messed up (but it works, I guess) that not doing that will make me miss a lot of good, interesting, things.

I join the tired masses. So tired, I slept through my alarm this morning (something that hasn’t happened for over 20 years, easily), and wife woke me up asking “Aren’t you going to work today?” So yeah, I could have slept for a while more this morning, for sure.

In-reply-to » @bender … boom, 5500+ hits on that blog post. 🤣 Should I start monetizing this shit?! 🤪 (Don’t worry, I won’t. German law gets super annoying if you do that kind of thing.)

@movq@www.uninformativ.de LOL. At least now you know your infrastructure and web server can handle some traffic. Consider it a test, in addition to the fleeting recognition. 🤣

In-reply-to » @bender Well no. Some of us don't. Let me point you at some research on the subject 😅 Some people don't have an inner monologue

@prologic@twtxt.net so, “people with no inner monologue—a condition researchers sometimes refer to as anendophasia”, says the AI. Then “it is not a disorder: lacking an inner voice is simply a different, perfectly healthy way of being human”. Ah, so a condition, but a healthy one. Got it.

Again, I am not talking about a true monologue. If you have never thought “OK, let’s do this!” before engaging on an activity, then alright. Weird, in contrast to the rest of us, hard to believe, yes, but I believe you. Much of the troubleshooting, and creativity that comes with thought involves, well, thoughts. Maybe you are closer to AI than the rest of us, indeed! 🤪😂

In-reply-to » @arne This is interesting. Sorry I missed this, I just found this post of yours and wanted to contribute 😅 Here's something interesting about me... I don't ever talk to myself, like ever. I have no, what they call, "inner monologue". Maybe I'm odd, but my wife asked me this very same question a while back and I said the same, there is never anything in my head except ideas, visuals or sounds, sometimes all at once, but never an inner monologue of "talking to myself".

It is not a monologue in the whole sense of it. But yeah, we all do.

In-reply-to » @lyse Thanks! There are a few points in there that I’ll add to my list.

@prologic@twtxt.net let me ask you this. Would you want your children not to learn anything, because “they have AI”? Are you OK with your children using the AI for all of their homework? What sense will it make? What kind of future would that bring for them? We need to analyse the repercussions from all angles, even if AI were to provide absolutely flawless answers every single time. Even if AI were to become omniscient. What will it be of the human race then? What would we do? Serve the AI? Maintain the AI? Would we have found the true meaning of life then? To care for AI. Is that it?

@prologic@twtxt.net I don’t believe you. For example, you are programming something, and you are planning the steps, or you struggle at certain point. Any train of thought, of any kind, has an addressing. “If I move this here, what will it happen?”. “Hmm if we’re to place this logic here, will it do what we need?“. “If I were to do this, will it work?” “Damn it, you are so stupid, James, how could you miss that?!!” And so on. 😅 And that’s just a minor thing.

Trust me, you do. We all do. Even the crazy ones.

@tftp@tilde.town mentioning in here requires he whole shebang. With jenny, if using vim, there is a key combination:

Nick name completions: Allows you to use ^X ^U to turn verbatim nick names into full twtxt mentions. For example, typing “cath” and then pressing ^X ^U will turn “cath” into a full mention, like “@”. (This function will read the contents of your “~/.config/jenny/follow” file.)

In-reply-to » @lyse These days (and it’s been like that for a while), almost everything is loaded on-demand depending on which hardware the OS finds, so you can simply copy all your files with cp -a, install a bootloader, adjust some minor things /etc/fstab, done. Well, maybe not “done”, but it’s easy to sort out the remaining stuff afterwards.

@movq@www.uninformativ.de I would love to read a more detailed account on these moves. When you write moved, you mean user data, correct?
