@jason@jasonsanta.xyz Ahh Iβll try that πββοΈ
Yeah pretty cool animations π
@movq@www.uninformativ.de Yeah Iβm using AdGard at the network level and uBlockOrigin in my Browser. I donβt clear my browser profile/history though.
@movq@www.uninformativ.de Are you using any ad blockers? π€
@movq@www.uninformativ.de All I get us NXDOMAIN π
@movq@www.uninformativ.de Yeah you are right! π€ Thank you for re-motivating me πββοΈ However I am a day behind now, but I will catch up π€ My goal started out completing this yearβs #AdventOfCode writing all solutions in Go and mostly using functional style programming π
@jason@jasonsanta.xyz Works! π
Oh man I havenβt even started coding yet π€¦ββοΈ This is fast becoming no fun π’
@movq@www.uninformativ.de Thank you! π πββοΈ
@johanbove@johanbove.info With pygame or something else? π€
@movq@www.uninformativ.de Ahh I can sort of see the visualization (sort of), but itβll be faster if you explain wtf the algorithm is in textual form π
@movq@www.uninformativ.de Haha Iβm too stupid to work out what that trick is π Or too tied or both π€£
Todayβs #AdventofCode #2023 was a bit of a whoozie π€£ Not only did I have to work today (today being Monday et all), but also had to deal with a minor incident, then have dinner, etc and by the time I got back to my half-finished day 4 puzzle, I got a bit stuck with the 2nd part π€¦ββοΈ I guess I donβt really like array manipulation, itβs so easy to get lost π€£

Day 4, Part 1 and Day 4, Part 2 of #AdventOfCode #2023 done π₯³
My solution to the 2nd part is really, really slow π’ But it works so oh well π€·ββοΈ
@shreyan@twtxt.net What are you stuck on? π€
@jason@jasonsanta.xyz Yes it does ! π
@jason@jasonsanta.xyz At the very least you can copy/paste the subject and hash in your reply π
@jason@jasonsanta.xyz Welcome back buddy! π€
@movq@www.uninformativ.de Hah π
Hmm π€ Yeah all I had to do in the 2nd part was store the YX coordinate of the Symbol for the part, then transpose all the parts into a map of SymbolYX -> Part(s)
Note that I call it YX
and not XY
because the usual way of dealing with this in code, is rows first, then columns, ro Y then X π
@movq@www.uninformativ.de Hah looks like your logic is quite similar to mine actually and we wrote similar amounts of lines of code π€
@movq@www.uninformativ.de Nice! π But you still beat me π
@lyse@lyse.isobeef.org Meanwhile weβre sitting outside in 28C π₯΅ βTwas a top of 34 π±

@movq@www.uninformativ.de Iβm pretty sure itβs experience from doing past AoC puzzles π
@movq@www.uninformativ.de I donβt even think I notice π
@movq@www.uninformativ.de Yeah! Tell me about it. Grid searching, looking around, backtracking uggh I hate this stuff, this is why Iβm not really a true Software Engineer, because in reality you almost never write this stuff yourself from scratch π€£
@shreyan@twtxt.net Donβt worry, plenty of time to catch up π
@movq@www.uninformativ.de @taigrr@ndl.taigrr.com again, I dunno how you both beat me π€£ But well done! π Did I write too much code again? π
Day 3, Part 1 and Day 3, Part 2 of #AdventOfCode #2023 done π₯³ β My solution isnβt very efficient though π€¦ββοΈ But itβll do π€£
Day 3 of #AdventOfCode puzzle π

@xuu Interesting π€ I mean I only wrote ~3x more code, not too bad considering:
$ wc -l day2*.go
270 day2.go
69 day2_test.go
339 total
@xuu Yeah or in my case a lot of strings.TrimSpace()
and strings.Split()
because I hand-built a custom parser π€£
@lyse@lyse.isobeef.org Actually my wife and I are fine so far π€ Maybe weβll get lucky and not catch the nasty shitβ’ ?! π€£
@shreyan@twtxt.net Nice! π Welcome! π€
@slashdot@feeds.twtxt.net BahahahahahahahHah
alecthomas/participle: A parser library for Go This is a pretty interesting library for parsing data into structs π€
Admittedly I could have use regex to parse those lines into the structures I needed, but oh well π Sometimes i hate regex π€£
@movq@www.uninformativ.de Haha π€£ I guess Iβm aiming for βif this were real, how would I approach itβ π

Welcome @movq@www.uninformativ.de and @taigrr@ndl.taigrr.com π I dunno how you guys are doing these so far, but it took me ~2hrs to get Day 2 done π€£ Maybe I wrote too much code π
~22h to go for the 3rd #AdventOfCode puzzle (Day 3) π

@movq@www.uninformativ.de Itβs honestly not much better in Go really, but thatβs just par for the course with lower-level languages with type safety π€£
@movq@www.uninformativ.de Yeah π’
@movq@www.uninformativ.de It was perfect π
@movq@www.uninformativ.de I honestly think the video demo is actually pretty cool π It brings back so many memories π€£
@movq@www.uninformativ.de Very likely from our daughter, whom probably got it from school! So far we (the parents) havenβt got any symptoms yet, but itβs only a matter of time I guess π’
