In-reply-to » Hello, i want to present my new revolution twtxt v3 format - twjson That's why you should use it: 1. It's easy to to parse 2. It's easy to read (in formatted mode :D) 3. It used actually \n for newlines, you don't need unprintable symbols 4. Forget about hash collisions because using full hash Here is my twjson feed: https://doesnm.p.psf.lt/twjson.json And twtxt2json converter: https://doesnm.p.psf.lt/twjson.js

Are you all forgetting today’s April’s Fool? 🤣

In-reply-to » @andros That's a shame. But here's the thing about piracy. If I could download a PDF or MP3/OGG of a Book I'd happily pay for this. If I could download an MP3/OGG of some Music I would pay for this. If I could download an MP4 of a Movie I would pay for this.

@prologic@twtxt.net that’s you, and me, and some others. Sadly, though, a huge majority (I don’t have sources, or numbers, but “trust me, bro” :-P) will simply, gladly, and unapologetically, pirate.

In-reply-to » thanks @prologic! @bender the idea of the RFC was to reach an agreement on a difficult problem, receiving proposals, and the voting is a simple count to gauge the sentiment of "is this a problem worth to be fixed?, are we committed to implement a change in our clients?"

@prologic@twtxt.net I noticed that the hash also shows (as in clearly visible) on the “in-reply-to”. That doesn’t happen with any other client—well, at least not with Yarn, nor jenny.

In-reply-to » @bender I taught the whole ecosystem 😁 @prologic @eapl.me The question I was asked the most was: How do I discover people? Someone came up with a fantastic idea, instead of adding the new twt at the end of the feed, do it at the beginning. So you can paginate by cutting the request every few lines.

@eapl.me@eapl.me you wrote, partially:

“I’d like to change that. It’s by nerds/hackers, for nerds/hackers and friends of these.”

I wish you well, and good luck! 😅

@andros@twtxt.andros.dev and how will that help “discover people”? I am missing something, I am sure, as I don’t understand.

Twtxt was made for nerds, by nerds. So one would script a way to often (and/or ongoing) check your web server logs for new mentions, “follows”, etc.

In-reply-to » @bender thinked about Gemini protocol. Why corporations shit this name with cryptocurrency and LLMs?

@doesnm@doesnm.p.psf.lt why? The Gemini protocol is an obscure, niche, good-for-nothing (yeah, I am trolling) protocol. Search for “Gemini”, and tell me in which page, on your search engine of choice, you see it being referred as a protocol.

In-reply-to » Wait! What's going on?! 🧐

@prologic@twtxt.net Gemini has an answer for you:

This is a conversation thread from a twtxt network, detailing a user’s (movq) frustration with the Mastodon “export data” feature and their consideration of self-hosting a fediverse alternative. Here’s a summary:

  • movq’s initial issue:
    • movq is concerned about the volatility of their data on their current Mastodon instance due to a broken “export data” feature.
    • They contacted the admins, but the issue remains unresolved.
    • This led them to contemplate self-hosting.
  • Alternative fediverse software suggestions:
    • kat suggests gotosocial as a lightweight alternative to Mastodon.
    • movq agrees, and also mentions snac as a potential option.
  • movq’s change of heart:
    • movq ultimately decides that self-hosting any fediverse software, besides twtxt, is too much effort.
  • Resolution and compromise:
    • The Mastodon admins attribute the export failure to the size of movq’s account.
    • movq decides to set their Mastodon account to auto-delete posts after approximately 180 days to manage data size.
    • Movq also mentions that they use auto-expiring links on twtxt to reduce data storage.

In-reply-to » I got a small desk calendar as advertising gift. It shows three months at once. I'm using this thing since the beginning of this year and I have to say that it turned out to be super useful. I'm happily surprised.

@lyse@lyse.isobeef.org I have never used a paper calendar. Before I was 23-24 years old I didn’t use a calendar at all. Since I was 24, I have used pocket computer based ones, until today. I have a personal calendar, and a family shared one. So do wife, and children.

Come to think of it, I don’t use writing/scribbling paper at all!

In-reply-to » @prologic We can't agree on this idea because that makes things even more complicated than it already is today. The beauty of twtxt is, you put one file on your server, done. One. Not five million. Granted, there might be archive feeds, so it might be already a bit more, but still faaaaaaar less than one file per message.

@lyse@lyse.isobeef.org deeply honored to be used as an example, when illustrating things that will break! :-D <3

@andros@twtxt.andros.dev I think that by “starting again” they meant “starting over”, as in, completely dropping it, and starting with a blank slate.

@prologic@twtxt.net they had elections, and conservatives won (the dreaded AfD didn’t take majority, and most likely will not be forming coalition with the winning party). Not a perfect outcome (that never happens), but it could have been much worse, I think.

Warning! It looks like trusted-proxies is not set correctly in this instance’s configuration. This may cause rate-limiting issues and, by extension, federation issues.

If you are the instance admin, you should fix this by adding 10.66.66.1/32 to your trusted-proxies.

Granted, I usually keep between 50-60 open tabs, and Safari (both mobile and desktop) does a great job with them (power wise). Now, 500! Ooof! 😅
