@prologic@twtxt.net Libera’s insistence on giving them an e-mail and my real IP address makes me really not want to give them either one. Otherwise, I’d probably talk in IRC regularly.
Even if you use a regular IRC client? 🤔 Where do they insist on this? 🤔
for service registration like nickserv. really its only for password recovery so a trow away is fine.
Yep, so you can recover your password, I think. About the real IP address, no idea who’s receiving it.
@prologic@twtxt.net I use a commercial VPN service most of the time to protect from my ISP. Libera won’t allow you to connect if you’re using a known commercial VPN IP address unless you authenticate to an account with a verified e-mail address. Tor doesn’t work either, if I remember correctly.
I wouldn’t mind this so much, but you can’t register an account unless you’re using an approved IP address.
@mckinley@twtxt.net I see 🤔
@mckinley@twtxt.net You take your privacy much more seriously than I do 😆
@prologic@twtxt.net My ISP is known for invading the privacy of its users and they like to perform MITM attacks on unencrypted Web traffic. It’s not total tin-foil-hattery. :)
@mckinley@twtxt.net Oh geez good lord man 🤦♂️ That’s nuts 😳
