@marado@twtxt.net The “issue” (if you will) about Twtxt / Yarn.social not being talked about as a viable alternative, is money. We simply do not have deep pockets like Twitter™ or any of the other privacy eroding pieces of garbage “social. media”, so we’ll always stay small and niche unless one of two things happens:

  • some nice person throws money our way
  • some “popular” person says, “Hey look, go join Yarn.social, it’s completely decentralised and devoid of all this madness!”

@will@twtxt.net Well now that we have a Vultr App spinning up your own Pod for either yourself or a small community of friends/family or whatever should be really easy now. We plan to rollout similar apps out to other providers too over time.

@mckinley@twtxt.net To be honest I don’t even know what “problems” Discord was trying to solve? It just seems like yet another Sassy thing trying to squeeze as much money out of poor unsuspecting humans. What “technical” or “social” problems was it trying to solve? 🤔

At least we’re attempting to solve (finally) a decentralised, simple to use and simple to build against (indie-web style) instant messenger with Salty.im – We just need either funds, time or contributors or all three 😅 (its coming along…)

And from gamers using centralized platforms (iOS, Android, Xbox, Switch, Playstation) to communicate with other players in that realm.

Aaaand, I’m guilty too. I use Discord at work, and kind of like it (I hate Slack).

I have tried to use open IM, but no one (of business people, our audience, friends and family) uses them, so the network effect is strong here.
