So I think the PR to add support for Twtxt to Mastodon is probably not going to happen by the looks of it π’ But OTOH I discovered / found out that Mastodon actually has RSS feeds? Can anyone confirm? How does this work? π€
@prologic@twtxt.net What are you trying to do?
Having the timeline from a Mastodon instance as a twtxt.txt file ?
@eaplmx@twtxt.net At this point Iβm just curious. Do you know how to access/view the RSS feed of a Mastodon user? π€
So with the help of a good βol friend (no longer active on Yarn.social / Twtxt, we miss you buddy π ) Iβve figured out how Mastodon RSS works and it looks pretty reasonable as a 1-way Mastodon -> RSS -> Twtxt which we can then use in any valid Twtxt client. Seems to work rather nicely π
@prologic@twtxt.net plannning a new feature for feeds.twtxt.net ?
@marado@twtxt.net Yes π
@mckinley@twtxt.net Thanks! Figured that out too π
@mckinley@twtxt.net I never used itβ¦ It looks like it shows a limited amount of toots (I donβt know if itβs limited by num of toots or by date range)
@eaplmx@twtxt.net Yes but that wonβt matter as the Feeds service will basically poll the RSS feed and track it over time writing new Twts into the Twtxt feed π β This would already work as-is if you just shove in the .rss
URI, but Iβm going to add first-class support for this with something like: mastodon:user@server
@marado@tilde.pt @mckinley@twtxt.net and anyone else interested. This PR is merged and rolled out to the Feeds service/instance I run π
@prologic@twtxt.net oh, I see ejat I did wrong, extra @
@marado@twtxt.net Should we support both?
@prologic@twtxt.net I donβt know enough about mastodon to be sure
@marado@twtxt.net I think the fact that you used two at symbols probably tells me that maybe we should support both forms? π€
@prologic@twtxt.net Well, I just went to confirm, and people are referring to their presence on mastodon with the initial @, so⦠yes, better support both formats!
@marado@twtxt.net Patch incoming! π
Done π by the time you read this the update should have gone out π€
