It has been a busy day and I found no time to write something more about this, or writing it before… but I still want to mark the date: today (11th November 2023) #TalkerNode became 10 years old.

This free software project did not at all progress how I was imagining it would (does any?) - in a decade it failed to be used in the way I was most certain it would, and it ended up being used in scenarios I would not have guessed. It has not getting the attention it deserves, as I’ve been focusing a lot of mine time on quite different things (it’s last commit is from 2022!), but it still moves. In a decade I didn’t manage to make it have the feature set I see as necessary in order to consider it “a success” (the 0.7 milestone, basically, I’m not even talking about all that is needed for the 1.0 release), but to be fair, I also didn’t really need it to have it. I’m not sure where will the project be in one more decade, but what I know is that, currently, it is the only “actively maintained” talker base, and that’s enough for me to make it a valuable project to keep maintaining. Hopefully I’ll be kinder to it in 2024 than I have been this year.

Have no clue what am I talking about but read this far? Here’s the link: https://github.com/marado/TalkerNode
