@kat@yarn.girlonthemoon.xyz iām actually going to cry real tears they only ship to germany, austria, and switzerland

@movq@www.uninformativ.de oh my fucking god these steiner plushies are so cute iām gonna die
@lyse@lyse.isobeef.org How did I miss this one? Nice birb! š¦
@lyse@lyse.isobeef.org I canāt read. 𤦠Yeah, thatās gonna be a problem. I was not yet able to trigger it, though. Maybe they are (like Google) rolling out these changes gradually ā¦
@movq@www.uninformativ.de Oh, made in Germany explains the prices. Surprisingly, buying via the reseller is much cheaper than purchasing it from the manufacturer directly. WTF. O_o
@movq@www.uninformativ.de Yeah, weāre pattern matching machines. :-) Only the trans5c preview looks like a brain to me. :-) Trans4 is a bacterium.
@movq@www.uninformativ.de They already do:
[ā¦] These changes will apply to operations like cloning repositories over HTTPS [ā¦]
On a positive note: Finally time to get rid of as many Go dependencies as possible. :-)
@movq@www.uninformativ.de @kat@yarn.girlonthemoon.xyz Just have a beeswax candle ready for sniffing. :-)
@movq@www.uninformativ.de You reckon thatās a real possibility? š¤
@kat@yarn.girlonthemoon.xyz It would right š

sooo many ideas for my site now that itās SSG powered, not enough energyā¦.. i wanna make little content collections but no energy T__T also i only half know what content i wanna put in them lol!

@bender@twtxt.net I might be a bit too negative today. š I just wonder how long itāll take until they also restrict Git operations. š¤·

@prologic@twtxt.net right. I wonder what prompted the measure. Perhaps Microsoft doesnāt want any scrapper but Copilot to be lurking around? That might even sound as anti-competitive. I wonder how long will it take for lawsuits to kick in.

@bender@twtxt.net I normally donāt myself either, but that saide, I think thatās kind of @movq@www.uninformativ.deās point right? This new unauthenticated rate limit is absurd! š± You may as well just fucking 403 Forbidden

@prologic@twtxt.net that will not be a problem; as long as it doesnāt affect authenticated users it wouldnāt make a difference. But we are comparing apples and eggs here. I donāt access GitHub while unauthenticated, but I can see how others might. It comes across as anti-web in general.
@prologic@twtxt.net oh yeah a friend of mine ran into that after they forgot to log in while we were working on something together, it was nuts lol
like wouldnāt it be easier to do proof of work or something?!?!

@movq@www.uninformativ.de, ā60 requests per hourā, eh? Was that a thing (that is, unauthenticated access to GitHub)?! I know I am on the minority, perhaps, as I rarely (or never) access GitHub unauthenticated.

@lyse@lyse.isobeef.org Itās funny/interesting what people see in these. š @aelaraji@aelaraji.com said that some of them look like a brain on a reflective surface, and now I canāt unsee it. š

@lyse@lyse.isobeef.org crispy! Lovely pic, Lyse!

Iāll try to implement the new hashing stuff in jenny before the ādeadlineā. But I donāt think youāll see any texudus development from me in the near future. ā¹ļø
@bender@twtxt.net Good , glad you agree š
That should minimise the need for muting all those awkward feeds, I figure. :-D Sounds good!
Iām also thinking of adding eye-off icon next to every Twt that, when clicked, hides that feed (tooltip: āHide this feedā). This would work with the filters as a ātemporary additive filterā to restrict/control the current view.
Iām thinking of bringing back filters (this time not as a feature flag, just baked in): New filters: Hide Feed, Hide Bots, Hide News, Media Only, No Replies, Local Only ā toggle to trim noise & surface the Twts you care about.
#<2025-05-10T19:34:00+00:00 https://andros.dev/texudus.txt> Nice:) And is this implemented in your client as well? Iāve started to brainstorm on how to parse texudus in php, but I guess it could snatch some code from you?

@bender@twtxt.net itās here!!!! iām so happy with it :DDD hugo is awesome, i just found astro to be easiest to customize!
@kat@yarn.girlonthemoon.xyz so, where is the site? Show us, show us! I use Hugo exclusively, just a binary. My sites also build upon a commit, on my own VPS. š
@kat@yarn.girlonthemoon.xyz iām so obsessed like now i actually wanna play with the site more https://bytes.4-walls.net/kat/eunoia-astro
that site of mine i mentioned earlier? well itās now statically generated with astro, AND it automatically builds and deploys after i push changes to my own git instance, with the power of sourcehut builds! this is so cool
@prologic@twtxt.net hahahah i chose astro!
@prologic@twtxt.net noted!
tar
and find
were written by the devil to make sysadmins even more miserable
@movq@www.uninformativ.de yeahhh very true stuff. find is annoying af i just use fd when i can
@prologic@twtxt.net itās so annoying!
YouTube just went from this:

Why.
Red for āactivatedā and dark gray for ādeactivatedā was easy to recognize.
Now we have light gray for āactivatedā and dark gray for ādeactivatedā. Itās clearly worse.
Why, why, why.
Nice European greenfinch: https://lyse.isobeef.org/gruenfink-2025-05-10/
@kat@yarn.girlonthemoon.xyz You donāt need to change the directory first in line 11, you can just create the directory, thatās sufficient since youāre having an absolute path.
The echo
in line 13 is useless, you can simplify this to: newdir="$WD/$now"
If you reversed this line with the previous one, you could make use of the variable in the directory creation: mkdir "$newdir"
.
In line 16, pull the directory change out of the loop upfront. The loop body doesnāt modify the working directory, so no need to reset it with each cycle. In fact, you could even spare the cd
altogether when you simply tell find
where to look: find "$basedir" -type fā¦
.
I didnāt try it, but if I read the manpage correctly, you should be able to simplify line 19 as well:
-C Change to DIR before performing any operations. This option is order-sensitive, i.e. it affects all options that follow.
Hence, remove the cd
and put the -C "$WD"
as the first argument to tar
. Again, I didnāt try it. Proceed with caution.
Finally, you donāt need to specify the full path to rm
in line 21. I bet, /bin
is in your PATH
. When you removed the previous cd
from my last suggestion, the relative path that follows wonāt work anymore. So, just use the absolute path that you already have in a variable: rm -rf "$newdir"
I hope you find this tiny review a wee bit useful. :-)

tar
and find
were written by the devil to make sysadmins even more miserable
@kat@yarn.girlonthemoon.xyz @movq@www.uninformativ.de @prologic@twtxt.net Yeah, Iām also having them in my repertoire for ages, so Iām used to the weird command line options. From todayās perspective, theyāre not consistent with the rest of the typical shell utilities, thatās for sure.
Regarding find | grep foo
, I recommend find -name '*foo*'
, prologic. Also, I regularly use -type d
and -type f
to find directories or files.
@kat@yarn.girlonthemoon.xyz Nothing wrong with handwritten HTML. Thatās often superior to generated stuff I believe. :-)

tar
and find
were written by the devil to make sysadmins even more miserable
@movq@www.uninformativ.de Yeah I actually use sift a lot these days for most āsearchingā ā at least code and text searching. For finding files by name I still use find | grep
.
tar
and find
were written by the devil to make sysadmins even more miserable
@kat@yarn.girlonthemoon.xyz @prologic@twtxt.net Given that all these programs are super old (tar
is from the late 1970ies), while trying to retain backwards-compatibilty, Iām not surprised that the UI isnāt too great. š¤
find
has quite a few pitfalls, that is very true. At work, we donāt even use it anymore in more complex scenarios but write Python scripts instead. find
can be fast and efficient, but fewer and fewer people lack the knowledge to use it ⦠The same goes for Shell scripting in general, actually.
@kat@yarn.girlonthemoon.xyz Itās also perfectly safe to nuke your cache as well. i.e: rm data/cache*
and itās all good, things will just get rebuilt š
@kat@yarn.girlonthemoon.xyz I totally recommend zs 𤣠It powers all my sites! š https://twtxt.dev https://yarn.socia/ https://prologic.dev etc š
i got so emo about my site not being statically generated and instead hand coded but itās like i donāt even know if i want that because i feel most SSGs are built for blogging and continuous posting and i donāt want that i just want to make my silly pagesā¦.
that being said, the one iād use if i did switch to one would be astro and that one is so flexible i could really do anything with it including keeping my pages as is mostly without doing the blog stuff. idk! something to consider
i still want a tux plushie ngl. iām gonna draft my sister (she can sew) into making me one
@prologic@twtxt.net havenāt noticed anything weird in the logs! iāll let you know if it happens again and monitor more closely though. it was def weird!

tar
