In-reply-to » @movq When I quitted WhatsApp I went to Signal and this works really nice. You also have a native Desktop App and no outages so far. You can create bots for automation, which is a bit easier with Telegram, but hey, you can do that (Octoprint I hear to calling for filament change :-))

@carsten@yarn.zn80.net This ease of use is also just as important for ease of operations. Which reminds me… Btw… Have you tried Salty Chat at all yet? 🤔 I know its not “prime time” ready for the masses yet (lacking a decent Mobile App), but feedback from folks like you even at this stage is highly valuable 👌

Signal™ is great, I use it everywhere currently, most people I communicate with are on Signal. Only downside is it is centralised and requires a phone number.

In-reply-to » Oki doki. Now that I have not used my Twitter account for quite some time and have been posting to https://nrw.social/cblte I am pleased with the feedback, the conversations, the reactions, and discussions I already had. Twitter was, even in the beginning, not that nice. Too many people, too many things, and if you ask something, even with 400 followers, it does not get seen. But I also should interact here a bit more often, right? But which "universe" to be used for what?

@carsten@yarn.zn80.net Hmmm 🤔 I actually thought I had the concept/idea quite clear in my head, but I can’t seem to articulate it today 🤦‍♂️ – In any case, the idea would be to have a 2-way bridge between Twtxt and ActivityPub, we can already follow most Mastodon users for example (feeds.twtxt.net supports this), but its only 1-way 😢 – Also the ActivityPub protocol itself is quite challenge to use and wrap your head around 🤯

In-reply-to » @prologic I have to confess, I never really had a look at Salty. 🤔 Is it ready for “prime time”? I.e., usable by non-tech users, Android and iOS client, easy upload of images and videos, … ?

No sadly not yet 😢 Needs a far better mobile app 👌

@carsten@yarn.zn80.net no, I mean a full 2-way bridge. but maybe we could build cross posting support as well but the problem with cross posting is how many services do you support?

@carsten@yarn.zn80.net Aouls you also benefit from and would like to see a 2-way Twtxt<->ActivityPub bridge? 🤔

In-reply-to » @prologic I got it! syncthing 3 way synchronize without global announcement. Acces on LAN and via Tailscale VPN. Also Setting the NAS as introducer on the individual devices and the lan IP with port (e.g: tcp://10.0.0.10:22000) and the Tailscale IP with port. The port should be the one you expose out of the container which’s internally mapped to 22000. You set these IP instead of the dynamic entry in the advanced tab.

@carsten@yarn.zn80.net Nice 👌 Yes please share when you can 🤗

In-reply-to » I remember in grad school one of my professors saying "Networking and data storage are dual. One is about communicating data through space; the other is about communicating data through time" and 🤯. This was in the context of information theory and cryptography. I often go back to that idea.

@abucci@anthony.buc.ci Hmmm does the website or web app have to explicitly support certificate based auth? 🤔

@abucci@anthony.buc.ci Why do you want to setup your own CA? 🤔

In-reply-to » So... What a crazy ass world we live in! 🤦‍♂️ Any of you (I know @deebs does) remember when Minecraft was a kids games for kids and created by this awesome guy and was open source (I believe)? 🤔 -- That is until he sold it to Microsoft (who bought it for stupid amounts of money). What did Microsoft go and do with it? That's right kids! 😅 They forced everyone old and new ever wanting to play the game to have a "Microsoft" account. 🤦‍♂️ -- So my daughter has been wanting to play for some years now, I've said "No". But she's a bit older now, so its getting harder to say no. -- So she now has an account. But in order to protect her real identity and her email email address (I'm her father, of course I'm going to set her up in this stupid ass digital world properly 🤣); I had to 1) buy a random domain name 2) delegate it to Cloudflare 3) Setup Email routing. All this so I could setup basically "junk" / "throwaway" email addresses and create an account with "basically garbage data". 🤦‍♂️

@thecanine@twtxt.net I don’t know what riseup.net, but I have a feeling I basically did the same/similar thing by purchasing a domain name and setting up some random email routing to an actual email.

This is very much a “Fuck you” to Microsoft moment 🤬 – And basically almost every small to medium to large organisation in the world. The whole “Know your Customer” (KYC) laws in many countries is beyond a joke. Every cyber attack, every brach, every leak. We have to get out of this bullshit of having to know “personal identifiable information” about “users”. There’s no need for it! 🤦‍♂️

Remember how I toyed with the idea of building my own “identity provider” and then I think @abucci@anthony.buc.ci you chimed in with a bunch of “wants” and “wishes”? 🤔 – Well I’ve had some time to think about this… And I think Authelia should do this:

IndieAuth Identity Provider #4673 – If accepted and someone builds this (probably me) then Authelia itself could be that identity provider and authorisation proxy 👌

@thecanine@twtxt.net Speaking of which… This whole AI generated art, even AI generated code thing is kind of pissing me off. Not only is it making us lazy and devaluing what really awesome folks like you can do (when you put your heart into it 😍) but in the case of “AI generated code” its also just so wrong 🤯 – I’m not even going to go there on the “environmental and energy costs” 🤦‍♂️ – Why can’t we find more meainginful things to do with AI/ML?! 😳
