So many people in IT are so bitter and constantly ranting. “This sucks”, “that sucks”, “I know better”. It’s exhausting. And it’s “toxic” – in the sense that I, myself, often do it, too.

It’s been like that for as long as I can remember … Why do we love misery so much?

It’s really turning me off lately, making me want to leave IT for good. 😒

@movq@uninformativ.de is it perhaps a Hacker mindset of breaking things?

I was reading on Hacker News the other day about the collide of different personalities in the same space. Those wanting to give maintenance to existing systems (the stereotype of IT guy), the hackers (breaking stuff because why not) and the developers (building thinks to solve problems).

And in an environment of earning money to make a living. Everything together sounds like a recipe for a very ‘fun’ place to work.

@movq@www.uninformativ.de Well a lot of the things in IT suck sadly, but it is probably better to also focus on the improving parts from time to time. For example people finally starting to worry about their privacy, or leaving big tech, to try out some alternative community hosted platforms.

Also things sucking is not exclusive to IT, as most things look nice on the outside, but when you get deeper, you find out the much darker reality of that field and in things like art the reality is much darker, than it is in IT.
